Their's is a labor of love-love for community, love of public service, love for the youth of Depew. For the noble service they have rendered their community we, the class of '52, salute them and honor them. Among their many services and contributions the new lighted athletic field and the new school now under construction will ever stand as a visual reminder of their efforts. As we pass from the paths of youth into the road of life we say to the Board of Education, Thanks for your care, understanding and efforts in our behalf. No matter what our future, no matter where our future, we will always be proud of hav- ing been educated in a school system whose administration has been in the hands of such splendid, fine and upright Citizens of our Community. They have spent much time and effort on our class activities. Without their guidance our refreshment stand, our dances, and other activities would not have been great successes They have helped us solve not only the problems of the class as a group, but also our individual problems. The class participated in all the interclass dances and, of course, shared in the pro- fits. The freshmen students also took part in the magazine sale, and did a good iob as a result of their salesmanship. Everyone enjoyed the Christmas luncheon and dance, which was held on Decem- ber 18, 1951. The luncheon was held in the cafeteria, and was followed by a dance in the gymnasium. Stephen Condello made a iolly and generous Santa. The Freshman Class is looking forward to its big affairs of the year, the Gradua- tion Dance, which will be held on May 29, and the Graduation Exercises, which will be held on June 20. The Graduation Exercises will mark the end of our Junior High careers, and the beginning of our years in the Senior High School, which we hope will be very successful. 54 ii? R. All but the Sloan game were played on the new Northside field. Depew opened the season against a new opponent, Avon. The Wildcats showed their power in that first game with a 37 - 7 win. Depew then upset Amherst when an end run by Jim Caradori For the extra point turned out to be the margin of victory in a 7 - 6 win. Next came East Aurora and Depew rolled by them with a 32 - 0 win. Pine Hill gave Depew a scare as they lead 7 - 6 at halftime but Depew came back strong in the second half to surge ahead for a 26 - 7 victory. In the all important game with all previous records thrown to the winds, Depew and Lancaster battled to a T3 - 13 tie. Unbeaten, untied Sloan upset Depew's apple cart when they captured the Little Three Trophy with a 27 - I9 win. On the night of the Medina game a snow storm hit Erie County and the game was played on a field covered with several inches of snow. Depew slid to an 8 - O win. Due to the weather the Orchard Park game was postponed until the weather cleared. Depew closed the season with a 19 - 6 win over the Quakers. 70 Depew De pew Depew Depew De pew Depew Depew Depew SCHEDULE 7l Avon 7 Amherst 6 East Aurora O Pine Hill 7 Lancaster l3 Sloan 27 Medina 0 Orchard Park 6 F6 E '? In dual meets they were vic- torious in five out of seven starts and captured second position in the Triangular. Our success was contributed to Jessie Stornelli, who ran up a total of 60 points, and the support of many veterans who shared the lime light by filling vital spots on the team. New records were set in discus, shot put, and total points, for the year. We will be looking forward to another successful season but this may only be accom- plished with the wholehearted support of the boys of our school. The coaches extend their welcome to any boys interested in participating in track and field events in the coming season. It not only has served as an extra-curricular activity for sports-minded freshmen but this year, as in past years, it has provided material for Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. The experience gained by the frosh under the adequate coaching of Mr. Allgeier makes them skilled in the basic know-how of the court and molds them into the Varsity's future high scorers. 77 TOP ROW: W. The p . total record was six wins in twenty games. The poor record was probably due to the fact that the team didn't have any practice sessions but played every day of the week. Poor hitting was a major factor in many of the defeats. Brilliant pitching by Frank Miller was the back bone of the team. .lim Caradori and Frank Miller led the team in hit- ting, both batting high in the 300's. Midway through the season, several J. V. players were brought up to strengthen the Varsity, namely, Dan Zwolinski, Ron Evans, and Rico Cacciotti. The entire first team will be returning for the i952 season. Rozek JUNIOR VARSITY BASEBALL 'I' HE Depew Junior Varsity completed a rather successful season after having shown pro- spects of being one of the best balanced teams in the league. Having won their first five games in one-sided contests and showing their strength at the plate as well as on the moundp they seemed headed for an unbeaten season but with the loss of three of their reg- ulars to the Varsity they began to drop games to teams which they had previously routed. With the return of many veterans to the team next year a brighter and more successful season seems apparent. Although the team was winless, they have obtained valuable experience. Because of this experi- ence and the fact that the team is composed largely of underclassmen, we now look forward to a good team in '52, especially since two new tennis courts have been built in back of the school. 81 'A ,,.o-j Q.,-:-:-z-' 1:5:5:f:1:3:1:5:1:1:2:1:i:3:3:2:-:-:-:-:-:-:':-:-:7:1:-:3:f:5:' KOCIALS KI .. . . ..3:5:5:5:1:3:1:kY:1:5 B. The season was considered successful , however, because the two wins were over our traditional rival Lancaster. The Divot Diggers took part in a five team invitational tournament at the South Shore Country Club and returned with a third place. In another five team invitational tournament, held at Orchard Park Country Club, the team obtained a fourth place. The team also went to a tournament at Brae Burn Country Club and played against some of the most rigid competition in this area. This year's team saw the return of five of seven members of last year's team. Next year should see the return of all of the members of this year's team. Therefore, we know that the boys will have a very good record for the coming season. 82 .. ,- I . A .ix To Row - i Q5 Xh 'j ' - ' 4' ' P I. Wawrzyniak H. Kittle A ' G. Along with the returning veterans of last year, the team was strength- ened by new grapplers. These new members along with the old were in need of experience, For in this way only, could the team be strengthened. In order to accomplish this, ten meets were scheduled. The team was also entered in the sectionals this year. This experience was greatly needed in the sectional meet, in which individual champ- ions of each class were selected. Last year we placed only one first place, Ralph Folino, in the T75 lbs. class, along with two second and four third places. Under the able leader- ship of Gerald Fredericksen, team captain, we hope to increase our Fortunesin the section- als, along with a good team score during the regular season.
