tara I I . . . One of our most beloved instructors, ROBERT OWEN ANDREWS, who departed from our college scene October 8, 1954. In the two brief years that he was among us personally, 4'Bob' continually gave us reason to remember him enduringly by what he was as a man, by his patience and perseverance in getting the job done, and by his courageous refusal to let illness put him down. As a professor he tried to arouse our un- derstanding of how to continue improving our social and educational resources. The many improvements that he helped to bring about will be evident for years to come. His every day was an adventure into more mean- ingful living. Therefore with deep emotion and great re- spect, we, the Senior class, dedicate this thirtieth volume of the Oraculum, as a fond memorial, to Robert O W en Andrews- teacher, father, citizen, and friend to all man- kind.

During the past four years at Defiance College, we, the Senior class, have witnessed some of the most encouraging work in the construction of the physical plant and character building that has occurred in the whole past history of this institution. . In the physical plant many improvements can be accounted for in the last four years. Among them may be numbered the new Rec Hall, the newly remodeled auditorium, the first movie projection equipment, the re- modeled lobby and showers at Sisson, the new plumbing at Trowbridge, the dining room improvement, the new typwriting equipment and business machines, the completely new ANTHONY WAYNE LIBRARY IN AMERI- CAN STUDIES, and finally, plans for a new chapel and field house-to be built in the next few years. Truly D. C. has physically advanced by leaps and bounds from 1951 to 1955. Prestige-wise we have also greatly advanced. The choir sang at President Eisenhoweris inauguration in 1953. Our basketball teams have set some of the highest records in college history-copping several of the high scoring booths which will remain on into infinity. The cornerstone laying of the Anthony Wayne Library brought President Eisenhower and many other dignitaries to our Campus. Another first in our history was the annihilation of all threatening foes on the 1954 gridiron. The Yellow Jackets, with only twenty members ended the year as Ohiois only undefeated and untied college squad. And to top off a most glorious four yC3.1'S, this spring we again saw some of the highest dignitaries of the state and nation when lVIilton Eisenhower, President of Pennsylvania State University and brother of the President of the United States, dedicated our newly completed li- brary. New systems of arrangement such as the departmental division, the new arrangement of student council, and a chapel service each week, for those who Wish to go, have been initiated in our time. We therefore feel that we have had a great part in the molding, as well as being part of the mold, of this institution. Hence, we the 1955 Senior class, products of Trowbridge and Sisson Halls, feel that it is most proper to have construction of the physical and moral plant as the theme of the 1955 ORACULUM. This is D. C. at work and at play-the close of four short and wonderful years-June, 1955.
