Inger Gustafsson. Second Row: Coach Jean Wilmore, Dana Manring. Manager Barb Cuff The Lady Kahok volleyball team finished the season with a 19-12 record. Although this record is not as good as past records, they still played tough in many of their tournaments. In the Carbondale Tournament they defeated Chester and Mt. Vernon. They also defeated East St. Louis Lincoln and Granite City South in the Collinsville Tournament. Lady Kahok Susan Pitol made All-Area team. Pitol was also named as Most Valuable Player. Linda Long and Joan DallaRiva were the captains of the squad. 144 Athletics Joan DallaRiva tips the ball over the net at practice.

FOURTH IN LEAGUE Sophomore-First Row: John Easley. Robbie McReynolds, Bill Irvin. Eric Brooks. Roger Fowler. Scott Miller Second Row: Paul Bilyeu, Rod Cheatham, Bill Stimson. Mike Shannon. David King. John Tottleben, Steve Etherton. Third The Kahok’s win in their season opener against arch-rival Edwardsville led the team off to a promising start. Special recognition was awarded to the Gridders First Team Linebacker, Ray Seaman, for the Southwestern-All Conference Team. Coach Eschman stated, “It was a pleasure to coach this group of young men. They worked hard and their efforts were well rewarded even though we didn’t accomplish all of our goals.” The Kahok upsets of Granite City North and Alton were Row: David Phcgley, Elvis Lemus, Bryon Dossett. Chuck Riley. Coach El Eschman. Danny Lewis, John Blaylock. Brian Stephens. Will Wiley. considered their greatest triumphs this year. They attribute their success to their outstanding defensive team effort. The most disappointing losses were to Roxana, 0-21, and Althoff, 0-9. Despite these losses the Kahok Gridders placed fourth in the final league standings. Greg Calvin and Ross Kimbrell were voted this year’s Most Valuable Players. Terry Parker and Casey Smith did outstanding jobs as team captains. The Kahoks won their last home game of the year by defeating the Alton Redbirds 9-7.
