Marching Band Ronald Howell is probably one of the most hard working teachers in this school. Hefs dedicated to his work, he runs the poms, flag line and band single-handedly. I think he should be at a school where the bands are a lot bigger. He should be with kids that are more dedicated to the band put more time into the band than the students do. He de- serves the best members in the state of Ari- zona. Howell would listen to anyone's prob- lem, said Michael Torrez, band student for three and a half years who played base drum because no one else wanted to play it. It's not hard physically, it keeps me busy, be- cause itis a job, I do this mainly for the stu- dents, said Howell. This is Howell's 24th year as a band director. Every school band has a drum major, and ours for this year is senior Jesse James. James was qualified because he helped di- rect the band last year. He enjoys being drum major because it's a different side of music. He helps discipline and teach members dur- ing practices, he leads the band during gamesfparades. t'It's frustrating when they iband membersl don't learn what their sup- posed tof, Every Wednesday night the band had practices from 6:00-8:30 P.M. during football season. This year for band day the Hayden band went to Tucson to be judged on performance. The band was awarded a C average, for a lot of time spent practicing.
