67 KANISTEAN Et Cetera Kight bosses and Iwo I)a inch. Oh well! Campbell's Alley 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS Sports 78 T . Juniors 42 Our Dedication . . . This year the Ranislean staff of 1967, proudly dedicates its yearbook to a person who is consistently understanding and has an ever present smile. Her vibrant personality is a stimulant to her students which makes her classes interest- ing and meaningful. Through her field, litis individual constantly strives to help the students become aware of the languages and traditions of other peoples. In response to these qualities, we the yearbook staff, dedicate the 1967 KANISTEAN to Mrs. Thelma Rear. Mrs. Rear, originally from Pennsylvania, has been teaching in Canisteo for five years, and has served the students of this school in many w ays. She has been junior class advisor, which entails such tasks as decorations and arrangements for the Junior Prom and the Junior-Senior Banquet. We believe this dedication to be the best way of ex- pressing our appreciation to her. I wish to offer my sincere congratulations to each of you upon your graduation from Canisteo Central School. In the past we.have worked with you and your parents to prepare you for your part in our democratic society. It is our hope that we have helped give you the tools with w hich you can develop your talent to the point, that in the future you can he a credit to yourselves, your families and your country. Our best wishes go with you us you leave Canisteo Central. James E. Roach Supervising Principal It has been a privilege for me to have worked with the class of 1967 over the past six years. We have seen you move from a timid, unsure group of seventh graders to mature young people ready to enter the adult world as worthy citizens. The staff and I have been proud of your accomplishments in the school and in your other endeavors. From your past accomplishments we can only predict that y ou w ill make a favorable impression on the world beyond high school. This is our hope for you. If you remain true to yourself, your goals, your friends and to an aim of serving society, we know your impact will be recorded as positive. ly best wishes go with each of you. Richard J. High School Auditorium M. No. V Q? Adults $1,00 Senior Play As alumni look back on their last year in school, the senior play often comes to mind. They like to believe it was one of the best senior plays ever given and many have acclaimed this year's senior play as one of the best. The student leads were Clorianna, Kathy Payne, the young ruler of an imaginary country culled Grand Fenwick; and Tully Bascom, Jerry Fish, the chief ranger of the National Forest of Grand Fenwick whose chief interest was birds. The oilier characters included Count Mountjoy, Dan Jones, leader of the anti-dilutionist party; and Mr. Ben- ter, Ed Thompson, leader of the dilutionist party; the president. Rick Peltz; and Secretary of the State. Neil VanWie; with Ed Rheinheimer, a mad scientist. Many problems may arise performing such a play about types of people whom the players are not accustomed to. It takes time to teach a high school senior how to sit down with tuxedo tails, but even such details were executed well. Many of the seniors participated or helped in the production of this play under the direction of Mr. Andrew F. Lamb, Jr. 39 CLASSES Juniors Nancy Colton Secretary ADV ISORS: Mrs. Koar, Mr. Cruzan, Miss Woodruff. Gerry Amidon Treasurer Gregory Schnurle Vice-Presiiienl 42 Officers First Row: G. Am id on, J. Student Senate The Student Senate is the functioning student govern- ment of Canisteo Central School. The Senate is composed of a representative from each homeroom in the junior and senior high school, plus each class president. The officers for this school year are: Jerry Fish, president; Dennis Wyant, vice-president; Kathy Payne, secretary; and Becky Burns, treasurer. The advisor for this group is Mr. Zane Fiegl. Activities of the Student Senate this year include the magazine sale and sponsoring the individual pictures. The Senate worker! together with the Kanistean staff, and the student body, selling magazines. The profits were di kled to help pay for the yearbook and to give the student gov- ernment money to carry out possible projects. The vending machines were also placed in the school by the Student Senate, for the use of the student body. The Senate’s main objective is to serve the students, which it has carried out well. Russell and C. Den sm ore. The project of ihe Totem is to try to put out a publication that can represent the school. This could not be done without the help of Mrs. Coddington and Mr. Rode. We believe that the Totem is now coming closer and closer to the students. But this is only a start in the direction in which we are heading. For example, if the present day Totem reflects student life accurately, students are much more grim than we have been led to believe through personal observation. I herefore, we do not believe we have come close enough to the student body yet. Also much emphasis has been placed upon student art as a means of brightening up the Totem and ullowing more students to contribute their talents. Comparison with an issue of three years ago would show the direction in which we are trying to move. Mr. I umb and the Totem Staff Fint Row: C. Densmore, C. Russell. Second Rou: J. In each game the Redskins put forth new efforts at times resulting in an breath-taking victory. The Junior V arsity saw a great deal of action this year als . Each game was expertly played. Again and again, the opponent was defeated in a sparkling per- formance of the J team. Vi for magazines, ihe rest for us! In Memoriam In memory of Jill Smith, who lost her life in a fire at her home, we dedicate this page. A popular student, she was active in Girl Scouts, Junior Stars, Junior High Orchestra, Junior High Chorus, and was a Student Senate Representative. Jill was well-known for her smile, her good sense of humor, and her love of animals. May her memory live in our hearts forever. 90 The Seventh Grade You notice it right away in September, when the younger kids start talking about how it will he next year.” While they calmly speculate about next year’s football team, or next year’s” class rings, you can’t help thinking that they’re leav ing you out; taking away some of the luster of your last year by talking about next year. You're a little surprised if not stunned at first, after all, it's only September; there's a whole long year left. But what’s this? College applications? Summer job plans? Orders for graduation announcements. What’s the rush, there s a whole year left isn’t there? Or is there? Midyear exams next week? Someone must he playing a mean trick on you! It seems that there are only three weeks to each month. By the time spring comes you start wishing you could grab hold of each week and enjoy it to the fullest, but they fly by so fast that you can’t hang on. Soon you can’t even hang on to the days. Sports end. Last report cards come and go. The days get longer and hotter for the underclassman, hut for you they go faster and faster until suddenly, in a flurrv of yearbooks, banquets, and ceremonies, you’re through . . .! All at once you can see how much you enjoyed those learning years, and you know deep inside that it will never be the same again. There’s nothing left but to turn and step out into the outside world. Come to think of it, doesn’t that sound exciting? 91 Advertisements Congratulations to the Class of '67 KENN HAIR FASHION 9 Church Street Homell, N.Y. Compliments GEORGE J.BURD, INC.
