V V v v - mg V H .v IN MEMGRIAM 'Dx an Maijorie Clark Joyce Nonnamakel Joyce Nonnamaker a member of the class of 1945 passed away at her home in January 1945 She was an active member of her class starting with the class in the first grade in 1932 and would have graduated this year Jovce was a loyal and act1ve Girl Reserve member In her Junior year she was secretary treasurer of her class She also worked at the telephone office here 1n Bluffton We will never forget Joyce s smlling face nor forget the happy and encouraging word she always had for us During the first semester of her senior year she was tutored by teachers of our high school at her home and thus was able to keep up XV1tl'1 her class until he1 departure Marjorie Clark another member of the class of 1945 passed away at her home April 1944 She was an active girl in sports and clubs at the school during the years she could attend Maryorie started with the class 1n the first grade and would haye graduated this year Her first illness was in the fifth grade and kept her from school about two wears She was able to attend two years of high school xx hich made her yery happy but her illness then kept her home until her departure Durmg the years she yy as home from school Marjorie kept up wer interest in her class by being tutored The class of 1945 extends its sympathy to the parents and famlly of our classmates We all mlss them both X , , , i I Ns Al N .Q . . Senior Diary School started out Wlth a bang All the Senxors knowlng that th1s was their last year decided to put 1n everythmg they had to get everythmg they could Along Wlth the studles came all the dlfferent extra currlcular actlx 1t1es some of whlch are G1rl Reserves Home Economlc RGCFU1tS H1 Y and Future Farmers of Amerlca Many of the Senlor class enjoyed both the busmess and soclal meetlngs of these clubs The SGHIOTS w1ll never forget the many useful and healthful experlences recelved through these clubs Time soon came for the football season Although we have mlssed many of our famous athletes who were called to servlce or Jomed up the Senlor boys have done a good Job of taklng thelr place They too w1ll be mlssed next year Along Wlth the football season came the cheerleaders who have done a good 1ob keeplng up the morale of the team and of the student body Of the cheerleaders two were Senlors We were glad to have them partlclpate IH thls school functxon The school has also kept up 1tS morale by havlng partles the first one of whlch was a Halloween party The respons1bl1ty of havlng th1s party was d1V1d6d equally among the extra currlcular clubs Th1s aga1n gave the Senlors an opportunlty for leadershxp because many of the Sen1ors served as presldent or VILC presldent of these organlzatlons Before we knew It December came upon us As usual th1S month vacatlor Much tlme was spent p1epar1ng thlngs for the Chr1stmas party but to the dlsmay of all the SGHIOTS and all the rest of the hxgh school th1s party had to be dropped because of the severe weather condltlons Many of the other 3Ct1V1tl9S had to be omltted because of the weather Snow drlfts and bad roads gave us a very long Chrlstmas vacatlon Happy New Year' We were to come back January 2 but we ended up comlng back January 8th ThlS long vacatlon surely dldn t help our studles any The exam1nat1ons finally started and the SGHIOTS reallzed that thls was to be the last of the1r exam1nat1ons IH hlgh school We soon began to reahze aga1n how few boys there were ln our class for another one of our fellows left for the army and others reglstered Al though our class had been somewhat depleted we were st1ll as enthuslastlc as when we were seventh graders Soon came Valentme s Day Because of fuel shortage all aCt1V1t16S were stopped except for Wednesday nlght meetmgs Howex er we had a Valen tme s Party The gym was decorated m the Splflt of Valentlne The party was enjoyed by all who attended Spr ng IS here' All the Semors are gettlng sentlmental about school Here we are the last few weeks of school Junlor and Senlor Prom Sen1or play class nlght commencement final grade cards Senlors say fare well and Good Luck to the 46 ers 3 . . . - . . 7. . 2 . y V . . These meetings followed: talks by service men. a talk on sex life by Dr. Travis, a talk by coach Burcky, and others. We also held several business meetings and had some social evenings. Last summer Otto Klassen and Evan Herr attended Camp Nelson Dodd. the Hi-Y leaders' training camp. While they were there, they attained knowledge on how to lead, manage and promote interest in the Hi-Y club. Mr. Buhler, the faculty adviser for the club, was adviser of a group of boys at a boys' camp in Minnesota. The club, with thirty members, has learned from speakers on many subjects from all walks of life, and has social life and recreation mixed in to balance. Even though many girls have been busy with war jobs and other jobs in the community they all have eagerly participated in its propects. Last summer seven members enjoyed a very interesting and educa- tional week at Camp Pittenger where they learned many new and useful ideas through their contacts with members of other G. R. clubs. The theme for the year was UG. R. Susie. HG. R. Susie was a symbol or example of an ideal G. R. girl. and each girl strove to meet her standards. We. as members, unite in the desire to realize full creative life through a growing knowledge of God. The Girl Reserves are characterized by an inclusiveness which seeks to draw into the fellowship, groups of widely different background and expression. Emphasis is placed upon service 'to the community and world wide fellowship. Some of the projects this year were: Christmas caroling at the hospital, raising money to finance fees for cabinet members to attend Camp Pittenger, sending Christmas cards to the boys in service: and presenting a community program. This club acquaints the younger girls with the ideals and aims of the older organization. so that when they join the G. PALETTE CLUB The Palette Club, better known as the Art Club, is under the direction of Mrs. Lantz, our art teacher. All high school students who have taken at least one year of art and are interested in it are eligible for this club. Under the competent leadership of Miss Weed we have had many interesting meetings, both business and social. Under her guidance the girls enjoyed a trip to Toledo, had an extra-special Potluck, entertained the Women's Club and are planning a Chili Supper for F. F. A. They also participated in the Variety Show by presenting a Style Show. This year the Home Ec. Recruits have kept up the project of the point system. When a girl has obtained forty points, she is eligible to go on the trip taken at the end of the year. Again because of the national emergency, music contests have been suspended, Even though the orchestra is smaller than usual, the program for 1944-45 has been unusually successful. The orchestra participated in the Variety Show, Christmas program, and Community Institute, as well as playing for assembly programs.
