Gardner 3 ©FABIAN ••• November 22, 1964 On this fateful day our beloved President was taken from us. Through the cruel act of a single individual our country was thrown into despair. With a single bullet he washed a clod from our continent and a part of each of us departed with him to the cold sea of death. As the bells tolled his death, we realized that they tolled for us. It was as if a limb had been torn from the body of our country. This vacancy will remain as long as there is one alive who remembers the cruel deed. In order to help preserve the memory of our Presi- dent, it is with the greatest remorse that we dedicate the 1964 Bronco to ... John Fitzgerald Kennedy by Linda Hadley 5 Foreword No man is an Hand, intire of it selfe; every man is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine, if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse, as well as if a Promon- torie were, as well as if a-Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any mans death dimin- ishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee. Panamanian Exchange Student . • • as if a Mannor . . . of thine owne I were; 32 Secretary: Pat Hoge Sophomore Story Scum-of-the-earth they called us. Did we falter or shirk? We know that we are made of that stuff which makes a class an outstanding one. We realized early in our high school lives that no man is an island. Through cooperative effort we worked hard to gather wood for the biggest and best Homecoming fire. We foxed the upperclassmen when we won 1 st with our float in the Homecoming Parade. Ours was the best Sophomore Hop that good ole BHS has ever seen. Our Sopho- more assembly was acclaimed to be the best assembly of the year. Through the year, we lost several members from our class. Each time it was the same as if a Promontorie were. We had our joys and fun. We had our pitfalls and sorrows. We proved though, that we can make it and we look forward to returning to these hallowed halls, no longer as scum-of-the-earth, but as mighty Juniors. No longer the lowly and unsightly Sophomores, we have advanced to the station of Juniors. However, now as Juniors we face the sudden realization that there is so much to learn, so many opportunities confronting us, so many achievements and accomplishments to be attained if we have the desire and more important. . . determination. We are keenly aware that our high school days will soon draw to a close much, much too quickly. There is so much to do and gain in life and so little time to prepare ourselves. We ve had a wonderful time planning and working together on the Junior assembly, Junior Prom, and other various school activities. We began understanding the importance of cooperation and apprec- iated those who could successfully lead us in our endeavors. In the completed stages, we were all quietly proud seeing each of the activ- ities enjoyed by all who attended. All of us began to feel greater unity as a class and more confidence as individuals. We had learned year by year and piece by piece that soon we should make decisions that will have lasting effects on our lives. We know these decisions require knowledge and experience. Our Junior year has been one we have all enjoyed and a momentous adventure we shall never forget. As our Junior year closes, our Senior year advances steadily to each of us. New experiences will be added to our book of knowledge. We have one year left to collect the necessities required for us in life for . . . It is to work endless hours developing skill and technique to be exercised in the space of a few short minutes in front of an unpredict- able audience. It is a position achieved only through countless dis- appointments, untold pecuniary expense, and the deep-burning belief that a talent possessed must be shared for the satisfaction and refine- ment of everyone. I am a performer. I know the embarrassment accompanying the want of adequate preparation. I know the sickening disappointment of an audience whose response to a performance only acknowledges ones presence on the stage. I have often felt the absence of money spent in the purchasing and preparation of a piece of music—to be sung for the price of appreciation alone. Yet, I remain a performer. There's something inside of every real musician that keeps him going. Perhaps it is the hope for, or memory of, the first big night— the time when all the toil and expense and anxiety pay off in touching the audience and capturing their love. When the curtain is up and the house lights are cut, it is the performer's show. Be it from a reed, brass, or strings, or from his own voice, a man gives the best he has in a re- sounding climax to all his efforts. And when all is ended and the per- former steps back to make his bow, applause breaks loose in the house. It's a warm applause, a wild applause, an unending applause —applause which, through the misty eyes and burning ears of the performer, echos back in a life of song. Class officers: Pres. Jerry Smith; V. Pres. Rich Hoge. Sec. Rhea Bingham. Class sponsor: Lorraine Easter Seniors ’64 We, the Class of 1964, struggled to become a piece of the continent, a part of the main, when we entered the hallowed halls of Blackfoot High. We bobbed among a wave of students and tried to smooth ourselves into the general current. As the last freshmen to enter BHS, we were twice thrust in the undertow. Nevertheless, as frosh, we managed to survive initiation, which consisted mainly of our assembly and creative millinery day. The last class to be honored by a Freshman Mixer, we rose to still another honor with our prize-winning float in the fair parade. New confidence came with our sophomore year as we ventured into the many school activities. Achievements? Just a few were Julius Caesar, two class assem- blies, and our dance, The Tropical Twist. We were indeed jolly, jolly juniors. Who wouldn't be after finally attaining the upperclassman status! Our Junior Prom crowned the year with classic Roman glory. As a class, we were still united in our efforts to succeed, but each of us began to seek individual paths. Now, as mighty seniors, we have left part of ourselves with the continent; yet, each of us will break off and follow our own course through life's turbulent waters. Each of us will listen for a call—then answer it according to our desires and abilities. Each of us will not send to know for whom the bell tolls . . . but will remember that “It tolls for thee. —Janis Yancey Nori Shiratori Donna Panko BONNIE ABEND . . . -Buns HI-LITE . . .
