FROM THE SENIOR CLASS OF BELLEVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL BELLEVILLE, NEW YORK THE TOWER Dedication The Class of 1984 is very honored to dedicate The Tower of 1984 to the Union Academy of Belleville We feel that U.A.B is not only an institution of learning, but a spirit that has inspired all who have passed through its halls The Union Academy was built in 1824 by the people of Belleville. The Belleville residents were inspired by Joshua Bradley to replace the log cabin schoolhouse Giles Hall's contribution of land was a further inspiration In 1845, the Bell Tower became an addition to the spirit of Union Academy The Bell Tower was contributed by the Presbyterian Church, the Methodist Church, and the Baptist Church In 1882 Union Academy extended its size to meet the rising enrollment. The park was given by Frederick Williams On January 29, 1923, Union Academy burned, but the people refused to give up. They were determined to start again On September 6, 1924, the Union Academy was rebuilt In 1935 the southeast wing was added It wasn't until 1954-1955 that the northwest addition was built, and the principal. Mr Ernest Shaad, made some renovations to balance the new facilities. In 1962 the house on Academy Street was divided into two classrooms But as the enrollment started to decline, the Sixth grades and Kindergarten moved to the main building The Academy House was sold In 1966, the mechanical bell was installed in the Bell Tower. The Union Academy is a place where the pride and spirit of Belleville will always remain Even after the name changes, the pride and spirit will remain in the hearts of all those who have had a part of the Union Academy of Belleville BELLEVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL 400 IT 10 M ctccri 1094 BOARD OF CDUCATION 0 HARLOW HARRY C WILLIAMS WILLIAM F CHAMBERLAIN CCORCC K PtlTON Him c EASTMAN riCftfNCC N MATHER taut ROCCR C EASTMAN cum CANE ST C.
