JV FOOTBALL—BASKETBALL Before you can become a Bart Starr or Lou Alcinder. it is necessary (and helpful) to learn the ins and outs of competitive competition and that’s where J.V. sports comes in. The younger members of our school learn that they have to earn that letter B and that it’s hard work to accomplish that goal. After attaining the accuracy of touchdowns or foul shots, who knows maybe Beacon will be put on the map. Row 1: Larry Paulin. Tim Kelliher, Tim Goodall, Bob Anderson. Leroy Thorpe. “Where’d the Ball Go?” It might have been another long season, but it's no exception to this year s fine but young team. The Bulldogs, headed by Art Smith, are in the midst of a rebuilding year. The gallant Blue and Gold eleven produced some sparkling performances despite not having won a game all season long. The Bulldogs, anchored by all-DCSL candidates Bob Cunningham and Larry Kilduff were no longer getting clobbered by such lopsided scores. The Bulldogs’ defensive unit kept the team in contention for most of the season, but plagued with a lack of offensive punch, cost them many victories. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs gave a valiant effort which might revive the team in the coming season. The Bulldogs have a team which should finally do this time. Ostrander, Jim Scully, John Powell, Don Basto, Joe Simmons. Jim Smith, Jim Townsend, Phil Knight. 15

WRESTLING TWIRLERS Brian Mortenson. Row 2: John VanTassell, Danny Mortenson. Mike Davis. Row 3: Fred Merz, Cindy Piga, Shawn Davis, Paul Salvas, Moe Baxter. Phil Dinan. Divided We Stand, United We Fall This year's team of grapplers are in short supply but their overall enthusiasm and team spirit are not on the short side. Coach Fred Merz's Bulldogs have some returning veterans in Brian Mortenson. Mike Davis. John Speyer, Bob Mazzacone, and John VanTassell, which should contribute some outstanding efforts and which may not be sufficient to win all matches. Row 1: Laurie Morrison. Row 2: Debbie Ciancanelli, Chris Yanarella. Row 3: Geralyn Carola, Chris Serre, Debbie Schofield, Renita Morgan. “Gosh These Boots Hurt!” Instead of a formal color guard, this year the American flag and B.H.S.’s colors were carried by our twirlers. Under the direction of Mr. Cyrus Vaughn, seven girls entertained football fans during half time with several routines while ac- companied by our glorious band. On different occasions our twirlers have par- ticipated in parades in Beacon and other cities. May these girls twirl on to higher achievements. 117
