Latham Acting Headmistress Dear Members of the Class of 1988: You have spent the past twelve years in classrooms. In twelve more years you will reach the year 2000 - the 21st century. What changes will that century bring? They are unimaginable to us today, just as the changes in this century must have been to Barnard students at the turn of the last century. Of one thing we can be sure: there will be change, and it will accelerate at a rate faster than any we have already experienced. I am sure that you will be prepared to accept the changes that will come, to grapple with the future and to take advantage of the many opportunities that will present themselves to you. Here in the close, nurturing atmosphere of Barnard School with concerned and dedicated teachers, you have learned to manage your time and to use your talents. You have learned to read and write, to speak and to listen, to calculate and compute. Most of all you have learned how to learn. These are valuable lessons that will help you succeed in the future. The world is waiting for you to meet it, to manage it. May you do all you can to make it a better place for yourselves and for your children! Good luck and God bless you all. Fondly, ' odffima Eunice Latham Mt. Karol Belak How do we love Mr. Belakg let us count the ways. 1. Each day we can count on you to greet us with your morning sonrisa. 2. You always give us thoughtful consejos. 3. You enlighten us with your filosofia de la vida. 4. You became a good amigo in Spanish club. 5. The Spanish Fiesta added Salsa to our School. 6. Your optimism and constant encouragement instilled confidence in ourselves so that we feel well prepared to confront the challenges of our future. For these reasons and many mote, you have gained out love, admiration, and respect. We, the Class of 1988, fondly dedicate The Mirror to you. Editor's Note The creation of this year's Mirror involved many dedicated people, and I speak for the entire staff when I happily say, It's finally finished! Although the 1988 Mirror was a great deal of work, we all knew it would be worth it. As we took and retook pictures, cropped them, and set up pages, and composed captions, our anticipation of the final piece kept us working diligently. Everyone involved in putting this yearbook together tried to capture Barnard's close family feeling, from school activities, assemblies, trips, to even the daily school life. Besides thanking the people who helped assemble the book, I also thank those of you who were not camera- shy and did not waste our film, I hope these pages have done you justice. I hope and am sure that one day we all, not only the Seniors, can look back through the Mirror and remember the happy times we shared here and the good friends we made. We have understood that it hasn't been easy following in their footsteps at Barnard, but you have succeeded. For the past eight years you have paved your own way in figure skating. The dedication, perseverance, and time management skills you learned are valuable lessons for your future. Most important, you learned, lt is human to want to hold on to what is precious. But life's real treasure is found in achieving the rhythm of ebb and flow. joy cannot be a constant state. Glory is part of a cycle that includes defeat. We are very proud of you.
