In this hymn we have expressed our praise to the One Who has saved us, the necessity for our witnessing to others of His saving Power, our Blessed Hope that He will soon re- turn for us, and our determination that we will always hold fast His Word. In preparing our yearbook, we of the 1962 Seminarion Staff have utilized phrases from the hymn to portray various aspects of our Seminary lqfe. We send this book out with the prayer that it may be used ofthe Lord to bring more souls to a knowledge of Him. ord. Holding fast L Word. Holding fa hful Word. Holding aithful Word. Holding 33st H BECAUSE OF YOUR FAITH - Miss Fletcher, Miss Vibbard, and Mrs. Murphy, . . . we continually give thanks to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ . . . for your faith, together with other prayer warriors, that made possible the beginning of Baptist Bible Seminary. Your desire to have an institution where men and women could be mhoroughly equipped to take their place in the arena of life where we . . . wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principality and powers . . . BECAUSE OF YOUR LOVE - Not only for the Lord Jesus Christ but also for all saints, we are proud to dedicate this book to you. You have demonstrated this love by your many acts of kindness shown in your teach- ing and counseling . Your prayerful concern for each student and graduate is deeply appreciated . In De tion BECAUSE OF YOUR HOPE - In the imminent return of Jesus Christ, you re- alized that . . . you must work the works of Him . . . while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. Your ceaseless, tire- less, and fearless efforts will berewarded when you have the joy of meeting the Master. Then too, the joy of unending fellowship with those like Miss Thomson and Dr . Bancroft, who worked with you in the founding years of our School, will be brought to fruition. We are proud to dedicate this book to you because of your FAITH, LOVE, and HOPE. 'Ezqaiisi 'gliihle Snntinarg JoHNsoN cm, New Yomc Office of November 1, 1961 The Pm, H def Dear Friends: The Commencement exercises which are scheduled for next Iune will induct our 30th graduating class into The Alumni of Baptist Bible Seminary. Our School was formally inaugurated with appropriate public ceremonies on the date of October 4, 1932 . The first graduates received their diplomas in the following spring. A third decennial represents a significant mile stone in the Life of a school. A formal cele- bration of our 30th birthday has been planned for October, 1962 . Thus it is altogether appropriate that the pre sent issue of the Seminarion should take cognizance of this meaningful occasion. Anniversary observances ineluctably focus attention on the point of origination. The inceptive period in the experience of our School can be de scribed only in terms which depict great faith and willingness to make costly sacrifices. The first full- time faculty, Dr. Emery H. Bancroft, Miss Mabel Thomson, Miss Hazel Vibbard and Miss Elizabeth Fletcher served without regular salaries. In a kindred spirit and under the leadership of their beloved Pastor, Dr. Richard Murphy, the members of the First Baptist Church of Johnson City, New York, proffered the use of their educational plant gratis. This generous arrangement has endured through the ensuing years. The first officers of the Seminary also gave largely of time and money. In addition to Dr. Murp and Dr. Bancroft the roster included Dr. Arthur A. Wright, Mr. Harry Livingston, Rev. Willis Hull and Mr. Ralph Clough. Today, amid the perils of almost apocalyptic times, we are challenged by the idea which flamed in the hearts of our founders. They sought three major goals: Theologic steadfa stness, academic excellence and evangelistic fervor. We heartily reaffirm the' objectives. Van Dyke forcibly expresses our feelings in the final stanza of his poem about the tempestuous voyage of Henry Hudson. The valiant mariner who has been successively thwarted by Storm, shipwreck and mutiny gathers the loyal remnant of hi crew and addresses the first mate in the se words: So point her up, Iohn King, nor 'west by north, We'll keep the honor of a certain aim Amid the perils of uncertain ways, And sail ahead and leave the re st to God.
