The class singing their winning Fight song written by Caroline Clevinger, at Pep Night- Stop, Look and Listen. Along The Winding Trail, the juniors made history with their masquerade dance. Nearly everyone came garbed in picturesque costumes. Evelyn Curfman and Neil Culligan won the prizes given for the best costumes. On January 97, the juniors offered The Tin Hero as their class play. Robert Carpenter, Pitching A Little Woo, played the lead. This was the First time in several years that a junior class play was presented. The juniors also managed monthly doughnut and candy sales with which they built up their class fund so that they were able to present their many elaborate functions. An Evening In Paris was enjoyed by the juniors and seniors at the annual prom and banquet at which the juniors were hosts, making a Perfect Ending for the year of 1938. The president of this class was Dick Temple, vice-president, Bob Beason, secretary, Virginia Young, Song Queen, Shirley Putman, Yell King, Wayne Phillips. f-oi 'TZZY A .'.f '.nl' I A an 4' r frm! Our sophomores , have made a way into both girls' and boys' glee clubs, orchestra, band, and have become reliable members of ll, different clubs and societies. In the fall of the year, to lead the class to success, we elected Ray Gaullce, president, Mary Jane Palmquist, vice-president, Ruth Silven, secretaryftreasurer, and Bob Standley, sergeant-at-arms. The most outstanding feat of the year was the sponsoring of our annual dance, given in the early spring, The theme ofthe dance was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. To create the desired atmosphere, interesting 'cartoons and drawings of Snow White, the seven dwarfs and the animals were used to decorate the gymnasium. Because we were young and inexperienced, we had to become accustomed to the ways and ideas of the Upper classmen. Since we have labored to learn as understudies, we will be ready to compete for leadership in scholarship and activities next year. -Ruth Silvcn 4 ri fl! . 'O l 3 Q 1-C 44 N10- 'an 6- FQ. Although the Debate Club was just started this year under the leadership of lgloise Gray, it has rapidly become one of the outstanding organizations of the school. ln order to stimulate interest, the debaters purchased gold sweaters with scroll-like emblems. So much interest was shown that one evening the members debated for three hours, concluding with a potluck supper, In January we had a formal banquet during which James T, Donald gave helpful suggestions about debate. Many lively discussions made interesting our regular period. Often we thought of Goldsmitffs lines. For, even though vanquished, he could argue still. Bill Studer, Don Brinton, Stephen Riordan and Dick Temple repre- sented the club in the debates with Harper and Pendleton. There was a time when an occasional senior play was produced in the average high school as the alpha and omega of dramatic work. The Baker high school has long been progressive in this respect and a great number of fine plays have been given. This year a large number of students have played in a series of five productions. Each production may be considered to have been success- ful, but in Little Women the highest ideals of the school theatre were reached. The semi-professional acting was above average and the stage set was unusually effective. The dramatic department looks forward to another year with hope and grateful thanks for the opportunity to work and do, for all the worlds a stage and all the men and women merely players. H aw- Ny Director of Drama Say l did you see that swell scene in the dramatic recital, presented by the advanced dramatics class, where Barbara Head and Granville Lee thrilled the audience by breaking each others' hearts in a scene from The Fool? Many other scenes from popular plays were presented before the critical eyes of the audience. A one-act play, The Gay Nine- ties, was featured. This was the first appearance of the dramatics class under the direc- tion of Hagan Moore. The printing class deserves thanks for the printing of the tickets and programs, and the orchestra for the accompaniment. f reg l x 4, 7 I . X V0 f 75 ff M .- jf 0 J H- X -s 'Q , 'TTT g 1 -.,. I .
