foreword The Thomist for the year 1957 is a repre- sentation of only one year enriched by the Aquinas Way. The Aquinas Way is a spirit which makes Aquinas distinctive - a way you have lived, people you have met, and things you have done - a unique situation and ex- perience not to be duplicated at any other college. The Aquinas Way stems from the in- terest in the student as a person rather than as a product of mass education, the informal atmosphere in class, around a cafeteria table or at a Circle, the congeniality between faculty and students, the unity among the students because of their opportunity of sharing in re- sponsibility, centered around the most impor- tant phase of the Aquinas Way, the spiritual life. The spirit of Aquinas will be carried far beyond this year and the college campus, for it will remain with each person, who as a stu- dent has had the opportunity of participating in it. This book presents our interpretation of the Aquinas Way - a tradition which you have helped to advance. 11
