Departure Jan 16, 1986 Hard work, long hours, and intensive preparations had made the Alamo ready for Thursday 16 January, the date set for another six month Western Pacific Deployment. On the pier families and friends gath- ered in the early morning to see their men off and to wish them well. Last minute instructions were given, hugs, tears, kisses, and good-byes said, the Alamo was underway at 08:00 and disappeared into the fog off Point Loma. The adventure, that would last for six months, was on. For the next one hundred-eighty days navy and marine corps families would be separated with the only con- tact coming from letters and infrequent overseas phone calls. This book is an attempt to visually cap- ture what made up that half year of our lives. Also to remind us of the good times, friendships, hard work, and accomplishments we made during this time. From its beginning in January till our arrival in July we, lived and worked together, and experienced half a world of travel. I sincerely hope that when reminiscing this event this book will help us remember the good times and people we've met along the way.
