THE BETTER PART The roads of life, invitingly, Beckoned to a youthful heart. A future lay dark, uncertain-- To fulfill its destined part. The sheen of worldly pleasure Cast a glow entrancingly, Yet somehow died in the dimness of an eye that failed to see. For a sudden peace had stolen Into the silence of that heart, A peace that made a youthful mind Long for a better part. No din of earthly glamour, No false sheen of passing time, Could satisfy a pain that longed To possess that peace sublime.
