u ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL DON B. WEATI-IEBBY, B. A., M. A. To the Students of Abilene High School: From news reports on all the fighting fronts of the great conflict in which We are now engaged, evidences point toward an end that is perhaps not too far in the future. Prevailing conditions make us feel quite hopeful of the out- come. Then may we all look forward cheerfully, but with a sense of duty foremost in our minds. We should realize the gravity of the situation and tho responsibility that will be thrust upon us, and more especially that which i3 upon the shoulders of our youth. Thus, more than ever, we need to be prepared: to be on guard against pitfalls, brought about by evils of war which must inevitably follow. With hope we are obliged to look to the future. Surely, progressiveness will continue, and We must be alert to keep pace with it. Then build and rebuild in the ways and plans of the engineer, the states- man, the educator, and the moralist. With character, religious influence, and a worthy code of morals build a stronger democracy that reaches far and Wide in its influence and practices in order that more people of the world may enjoy its privileges and ways of peaceful living. Sincerely, DUN B. WEATI-IERBY.
