ZELIE-ANN W -Y 4- M- sees ees e as fs Class of l928 We the Class of 1928, consider it a privilege to relate our history. His- tory cannot be made in a day, and ours is no exception. Our class was con- sidered one of the best in the grades, since so many were willing to study and were desirous of receiving a thorough education. The class now consists of a few who have attended schools in other communities, while others have always been with us. During our last year in the grade schools, we were given an idea as to what High School life would be, and the group as a whole was very glad to enter. Several however, thought it was time to quit school, and they left us. Vvhen we entered the Zelienople High School, we were one of the largest classes. Our history as a real class in high school began on September 2, 1924 as Freshman. Wie numbered sixty-five. Of this number thirty-five were girls and thirty-two boys. Fifteen had been with the class since l9l6, when we entered the primary grade. Lessons were assigned the first day, and it took many hours of labor for their preparation On September 24 the class elected class officers and selected the colors, the flower. and the motto. Our officers are President, Martin Neuhausen, Vice l'resi:le11t. -Vlohn Rape. Secretary. Robert lierkey, Treasurer, Bertha Rape. Our colors are blue and white: the class flower sweet pea: the motto, Mft gaineth strength as it goes. The first social event was a weiner roast given by the Seniors with the Freshman as guests. This was the night of our initation, and it was enjoyed by every one present. Later the class held a weiner roast in the wood's by the Urphans Home. On February l8th we gave a Valentine party at Hotel Kaufman. The school term soon came to an end. Examinations were passed with high grades and we left Z. H. S. with one-fourth of our happy high school days gone by. On the eighth of September 1925, we again assembled, but this time as Sophomores. Our class had decreased somewhat as some quit school and others attended different schools. Many hardships were awaiting us, but we undertook the struggle bravely. The first social event of this year was a party given by the upper class- man in honor of the Freshman who took their vows, the fulfillment of which the other classes enforced. l.ate in October a Halloween Party was given by the Seniors. The Sophoinores were invited as guests. VVC enjoyed a sled load later in the year when we went to the home of one of our classmates. About the middle of the term we were very sorry to have our instructor. Mr. Barron leave us He had been called to engage in anothen line of workg but he left with us many ideas and principles that are worth while. VVe trust that in years to come we will continue to appreciate what he has taught us. 2 Several of the boys of our class played on the Varsity Football and Baskt Ball teams. One member belongs to the High School Urchestra, and four of the girls are members of the Cilee Club. Our achievinents are not con- fined to such activities, however, for a number of our class have won places on the Honor Roll for scholarship. Wie are striving to live up to our motto, and hope that we may still gain more strength in the remaining years of our High School career. 27
