For the second consecutive year the Peeper staff has been awarded a state Tuber- culosis award. The Journalism class deserves praise and congratulations on their very fine work. They have done very much to keep the school days from becoming monotonous and have done much to keep the light of Zeeland High School shining bright- ly. 49 ADVISOR ...... ..... M r. Zeeland invaded the Cvrandville gridiron for their first 1954 pigskin clash. The game, strictly a defensive battle, saw the Chix out-scored 8-6. The Chix, with the dust of defeat in their veins, met a powerful Otsego elev- en the following week on their home turf. Zeeland romped the stripes the en- tire evening to defeat the Bulldogs 14-0. Hampered by injures,a weak Chix gridironwas invaded by a fast Bronco out- fit from Coopersville. The Bronco's proved to be too fast and tricky for the spiritless Chix. This third test was marked by a high score of Z6-13. The following week a rejuvenated Chix trampled over a meek Hudsonville squad 33-O. The game, which was Hudsonvil1e's homecoming, proved to be a moral builder for the Chix with the entire team seeing action. A huge Homecoming crowd of 3,000 sawa spirited Chix end awinning era of football for Sparta by handling them their first defeat in seventeen consecutive games. This 7-0 victory for the Chix upset Sparta from the Ken-New-WaCrown. A small Fremont homecoming crowd saw two of the Ken-New-Wa league's strongest contenders clash for final 1954 gridiron honors. With a determined Fremont eleven never letting down a constant drive defeating the Chix 8-0. The Chix crushed a spirited Comstock Park Panther drive early in the first quarter to defeat a supposedly meek rival 41-13. This gave the Chix an overall season record of 4 wins and 3 defeats. 52 IA 4 '.-mal A M., A K I I I Il 2nd Row: A. Klamt, V. Meeuwsen, E, De Jonge,I. Faber, F. Four out of five first place winners of Zeeland High have talked their way into success by partaking in the Forensics contest which was held March Z3 in the high school assembly. Competing with Holland Christian High and Unity Christian High of Hudsonville, our students swept first places in decla- mation, interpretative read- ing, humorous reading, origi- nal oratory and second place in intrepretative reading and in extempore speech. On April 30 these four first place winners entered the Regional Michigan Forensic Contest held in Holland. Zeeland, take your hats off to these students who have represented your highschool so superbly.
