Minister: Would you like to ioin me in a missionary movement? Sweet young thing: I'm crazy to try it. ls it anything like the Rhumba? Paul H.: Do girls like conceited men better than the other kind? Pearly V.: What other kind? Alyce D.P.: All extremely bright men are conceited. Barry V.K.: Oh, I don't know. I'm not. Duke H.: We're coming to the Tunnel of Love. Are you afraid? Wanda W.: Not if you take that cigar out of your mouth! DEE AI.LEN'S THEME SONG Here's to the love that lies In women's eyes . . . and lies and lies and lies . . . Elaine V.W.: I'd like some lipstick. Clerk: What size, please? Elaine V.W.: Three rides and a house party. Ray: Are you fond of nuts? Edna: Is this a proposal? The festivities began on Thursday night with a snake dance, a huge bonfire, and a pep rally at the Athletic Field. The moon has a lot of affect on the tide. It also has considerable affect on the untied. The old-timer remembers when telephones were attached to the wall and women finally quit talking when their legs gave out. The girl who swears she has never been kissed has a right to swear. Half the world today is trying to find out how the other half got away with it. Gerry K. insists that when we speak of golden opportunities we are speaking of blondes. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for Ioafing like you do. Gee whiz, Mr. Dickman, I'm not really lazy, it's just that I have a constant, gnawing fear of getting tired. Woody: If I threw a kiss across the room, would you consider me bold? Shirley: No, iust lazy. Mabel De Jonge to class: Keep your eyes on your books now. I'm going to skip around the class. The reason that there are more auto wrecks than train wrecks is simple-the engineer never has occasion to hug the fireman. Two quarter-wits were arguing. You're a perfect dope! said one. Glen S.: Quit your kidding. None of us is perfect. Howard! Are you chewing gum again? No, Mr. Lampen, I'm just soaking up a prune to eat between classes. Pete De Pree says scrophobia is a fear of height. This is what you become a victim of when some guy about six-feet-two looks down at you and says, Who do you think you're shovin'? Mr. Overway: If this chemical were to explode, I'd be blown through the roof. Now gather around, class, so that you can follow me. I know a wolf who is a big dame hunter. Ward V. H. thinks we ought to pin a sign over our Far East policy saying, Washington slept here. Lyle Hop to Mr. Overway: We'II listen to what you have to say as long as it doesn't interfere with what we've already decided to do. Lyle H.: Where did you learn to kiss like that? Jean S.: Drinking at a slow water fountain. Mr. Mulder: Maxine, who was that I saw you kissing last night? Maxine: What time was it? 97 eff u-9 MORRO 9 fy, W f , 5 1 WM, f 3 if .1 r Nw ff I H 'QW' 3 ,,,A.,, ,af .f r ww. f. . - N wb, j. -.3535 . ax. 1:5 ' 1 -g Q 5 1 gk 'Ng ' f'?f37Tfs - f' T .Af , ..A, i N it ig, 1 A .f ,W Y I 'J , 1 N ' . .. Although many of us have never seen these men in, person we can feel their presence through the activities of the school. The new Freshmen prospered that year under the able leader- ship of Mary Dickman as president of the class and the co-sponsors, Miss Baer and Mrs. Janssen. The class of '5'l donned their Sophomore shoes with much enthusiasm. With Miss Vander Beck and Mrs. Wildman as co-sponsors and Barry Van Koevering as president, the Sophomore class was highly acclaimed. Under the capable leadership of President Jack Kole with the assistance of co- sponsors Miss Vander Beck and Mr. Ter Avest, the Junior class gave one of the best banquets ever to be remembered by Zeeland High. The Junior class play, Out On A Limb, will go down in th Hall of Fame in Z.H.S. The Senior year was one to be remembered. Although the class dwindled from 'IO9 to 83 members, it still maintained its enthusiasm. This year the class was under the leadership of President Hilbert Beyer and co-sponsors Mrs. Den Herder and Mr. Ter Avest. The Senior play, Mother ls A Freshman, was one of the best. With Shirley Walters reigning as Queen, the football team went on to another undefeated season. During the year, the Seniors looked forward to the coming boat trip and commencement exercises. With their high school career drawing to a close, the Senior class of T951 can look back on four wonderful years in Zeeland High School. During our stay in Zeeland High, our feet have been directed in their paths, but now they will be scat- tered to the far corners of the earth. We hold high the hope that these 83 pair of feet will again meet on the sands of time.l6 N -km. .k XX X 1 K.. X-...MX-.. X-A NZ QM :WW A x. Barbara Bensinger, Irma The class which will fill the shoes of the seniors next year has proved its worth. Their three-act comedy AImost Summer was a smash hit. Their receipts for the maga- zine drive were among the highest on record. The Junior-Senior Banquet was a great success. They also sponsored a pep meeting. But all work and no play makes the Junior class a dull class. On January II they held a box social in the gym. There was great excitement when the class rings arrived. All this was accomplished under the guiding hands of Roger Snow, president, and Mr. Courter and Miss Whitnell, sponsors. Good luck, Juniors!! Lf fx Lqiw' A -- I One hundred and ten strong, the Sophomores appeared at the beginning ot the year to do their worst to the Freshmen. For a ioyous three days they reduced the Fresh- men to the status of slaves and climaxed it all at a successful all school party. After cleaning up and resting from that party the Sophomores went on to other class activities. Their first class party was a hay ride followed by refreshments at the Youth Center and the second party was a square dance in the gym. But the Sophs didn't spend all their time at play. They presented a short snappy pep meeting which took second prize in the PM Brotherhood contest and have made a .place for themselves as valuable mem- bers ot the student body. President of the class is Delwyn Komeian and the sponsors are Miss De Jonge and Mr. Overway. OFFICERS PRESIDENT .,,.,...,.... ...,,,,..,.,...,...., ...t,.. ..... . VICE PRESIDENT ....... . No sooner had they become orientated as high school students than they were placed at the mercy of the Sophomores. For three days they were forced to wear their clothes inside along with other indignities in addition to being the slaves of all other students. All the Freshmen survived, however, and became full fledged members of the student body at the all-school party. On December 21 they held their first class party. They held a rip roaring hay ride followed by movies and re- freshments in the gym. The class is sponsored by Miss Van Dam and Mr. Bouma and Sally Boone is the president. Besides the officers, which are elected separ- ately, the Student Council is composed of a boy and girl chosen from each class and the president of each class. Unlike any other organization, the membership is determined by the entire student body. The purpose of the Student Council is to act as a representative of the student body. It was organized to consider the problems of the students, and to make high school life more educational and enioyable. To do this the Student Council has provided many activities. orncsns U JACK KOLE ,..... .,,.,........,.......,..... ,.....,,...,. This government consisted of two main parts: the police force and the court. The police force makes all warnings and arrests while the five members of the court hear all cases and pass out sentences. After a great deal of controversy an amendment to the Constitution was passed stating that the police force would be restricted to the school grounds. There are still several problems which have to be ironed out, but it is sincerely hoped that this important step will succeed. Hidden down under the Junior High Building, you will find the latest addition to the curriculum. Of course, the lovers of the soil who attend these classes find it very con- venient to go to their room by way of Ed's but that is all part of being in the Ag classes. Learning how to milk a cow, how to steer a horse, and how to tell a chicken from a Chick is what they really learn. But in addition to the book and field trips the Agricul- ture Club had lots of fun. After raising money by selling Christmas trees, the club spon- sored a three day Chick and Egg show. Choosing a Queen and her court was one of the many highlights of the event. Entrance requirements of this national organization are such that the iournalistic work has to be outstanding in order for the writer to be eligible for mem- bership. The organization helps make better school papers and annuals by sending papers and magazines containing information about all kinds of journalism. The members are presented with a pin on honor day. Each year five per cent of the Junior class and ten per cent of the Senior class receive the honor of being elected to the National Honor Society. These people have to be in the upper third of their class to be eligible for membership and are selected by the faculty on the basis of leadership, scholarship, character, and service. The society offers several scholarships which are awarded on the basis of an examination. These examina- tions were given in this high school for the first time this year. Toss me a roll. This phrase and many like it echoed from the tables of the Home Ec. room every time the Z-Club had a party. This only went to prove that the varsity letter winners still had a lot of pep and spirit left. However, the members did bestow it upon themselves to calm down on at least one occasion during the course of the year. This momentous event took place on December l, and was in the form of a semi-formal Christmas party, now an annual event for the Varsity Club. For this festive event, the fellows laid aside their levis and sweatshirts and replaced them with dress suits. Another big social event in the club's long list of enioyable activities was the initio-- tion party on January 30. Twenty-six new members were admitted to the Z-Club and although they were pushed around the entire day, they still managed to have a shocking good time.
