Good morning everyone' May I tell you about my dream of last night? As I drifted to sleep I suddenly found myself on the sunny streets of lanes ville a friendly little town on the banks of Tufford River At the corner of Main and Elm streets Chief of Police Henry Pyle was busy directing the heavy traffic I entered an establishment known in lanes ville as The Modern Dress Shoppe owned by the prominent Dona Looman who was busy reprirnanding the manager Howard Millard for failing to find a mistake in the ledger The salesgirls Hazel Morren and Barbara De Pree wer enioying the scene immensely Walking out of the shop I noticed a sign in the window announcing a con cert to be held in the Ianesville Bible Church of which the Rev Harvard Brou wer IS pastor The artists to be presented are Iarvis Wiggers and Gene Geib instrimentalists and Gordon Disselkoen vocal soloist with Evie Van Darn church organist accompanying Walking down the street I met Norma Hungerink who told me she was teaching the lst and 2nd grades at Ianesville Public School By the way Robert De Pree is principal of the Ianesville Iunior High School Norma and I walked into the Nyenhuis Drug Store operated by Roger Nyenruis eminent druggist of Ianesville and seated ourselves at the Counter We picked up a newspaper The Ianesville Chronicle and read this startling headline LEGISLATURE TO PASS NEW TAX BILL and underneath Secretary of the Treasury Esther Baar after conferring with President lerry Kraai re vealed to reporter George Van Koevering that the new tax bill placing a tax on shoestrings would be favorably reeived by the Senators Senator Will Meeusen is chairmen of the Finance Committee to which it was referred We turned to the editorial page where Editor Bill De Pree had Written an ardent dissertation condemning the city s school system On the last page of the first section we found a small notice Not responsible for any debts con tracted by anyone but myself Signed William D Boonstra Also in the clas sified FOR SALE column we found two interesting ads The first read thus FOR SALE Motorcycle Slightly banged up Call Gerald Gitchel if interested The second said FOR SALE A used lathe See Alma xampen Suddenly I caught sight of a small itern tucked away in the upper right hand corner bearing the caption Gentleman and Lady of the Day Selected. Upon reading the article I discovered that Ivan Compagner and his wife the former Beth Smallegan had been given this honor. We turned to the social page and learned that Vern Lokers recently re- turnod from scrubbing the decks of a PT boat and Edith Hendricks Vern's girl in every port were the guests of honor at a dinner given by Mr. Ron- ald Schipper and his wife the former Elsa De Witt. Also present at the social function were Lord and Lady Borst the Lady Borst being the former Ianet De longe. They are soon to embark on the majestic Queen Mary which will be leaving for England in the near future. With Roger Vanden Bosch as captain of the ship we are sure they will have a safe voyage. I was about to leave the drug store when the door suddenly burst open, and in rushed Lillian Venema, the city's telegraph operator, shouting breath- lessly, Eirel Theres a fire! George Kamp's garage is on fire! We rushed out on the street in time to see the fire truck go by. Fire Chief Harold Mast was occupying the driver's seat, and Fireman Peter Roon just swung on the back as it rounded the corner. When we arrived the fire was raging thoughout the building, and despite the heroic efforts of Gene Gorman to save his l933 Ford which was being re- paired, the garage and its contents was destroyed. The fire was said to have been caused by a short circuit. Gordon De longe, president of the National Insurance Corporation, with headquarters in this famous little town of Ianesville, came over to evaluate the damages and determined the loss at 315,000 Although Ianesville is but a small town, it is famous for its modern air- port, the headquarters for Syncopated Airlines. The president of this thriving business is Eugene Wyngarden. In the control tower, directing the Southern 29
