Here we have reaches of land and sky, broad vistas of grass and trees, rolling hills, terraces and walks. Here, Nature expresses herself in sunshine and shade, bud, leaf and flower, in snow-clad slope or brilliant autumn foliage, and we can draw inspiration from her various moods. The beauty of the school has been enhanced provement the school gives thanks to these by the gift of thousands of dollars worth of friends. Demonstration Band B QRGANIZATICDNS hitch their Wagons to the stars A . ...Ai Safety Patrol Senior Fund Movie Operators The many organizations at Zanesville High School acquired new impetus this year with their increased opportunities. Two local chapters emerged from their modern workshops to place mem- bers in top state offices. Programs were enlarged in scope, and state and national recognition was awarded for several club projects. Yet, as they hitched their wagons to the stars, they were ever mindful of the debt they owed the public. Service organizations banded together to protect the new school equipment and to provide a desirable atmosphere for the thousands of visitors. Z.H.S. activities, that had always stressed service to the school, now rose in gratitude to assist with the needs, not only of the school, but of the community. Forty fue 4-- they speak for democracy Zanesville High School government and activ- ities are administered through the organization called STUDENT COUNCIL. The powers be- hind the Student Council are the student body, the administration, the faculty, and the council constitution. The student body is the main con- trolling factor, as the administration favors student government and is always reluctant to exercise a veto. The success of the council depends upon the student, who should keep in close contact with his homeroom representative, and let him know any measures he thinks should be brought bc- fore the council. To prove that our students are willing to assume responsibility, the student council has under- taken to supervise the students and building by articulation through the following commissions: School Living, Communication, Citizenship, Re- search and Survey, Social Events, Leadership, Recreation, and Traffic Control. We soon found our bearings, took advantage of the activities available to sophomores, and began to think of ourselves as. not three groups, but one. In our junior year, a vast array of interesting clubs and extra-curricular duties kept us on our toes. In addition, the realities of the new building program began to unfold before usg and as this year drew to an end, we looked forward to the wonderful fact that we would be the first graduates from the new Z.H.S. The senior year was a dream come true in many ways. Opportunities we had never believed possible opened before us. It was exciting enough, with the usual full schedule of activities that always con- fronts a senior. Then this year became a record year in truth. The school won honors it had never won before, climaxed by the tremendous excitement of winning the state basketball championship. All too soon came the club picnics, class farewel1s,Iunior-Senior Prom, Class Day, and Baccalaureate. As we turn the tassels of our caps, we realize that this act symbolizes the end of an experience that is memorable for the knowledge we have gained, the friends we have found, the fun and dis- appointments we have had. an experience that is, in reality, a brief three years. but which will last in our minds forever. senior officers Officers who scanned the horizon from the bow of the senior ship Were: president, Henry Lee, vice-president, Irene Politis, secretary, Sue Hittber- ger, and treasurer, Harry Bronkar. ,of- ff' lib' -,pf 13 'z xl wwf N! The Rah, rah, sophomoresi' so quickly picked up, faded into the hackground as the Alma Mater hlossomed into meaning. The sophomore year passed, and the junior class entered the new Zanesville High School, proud to have been a part of Lash, hut grateful to the community for the magnificent new building. Class rings came, and officers were elected for the forthcoming year. Then came the end of two years of wonderful fellowship, and along with it an eager anticipation of the senior year. -i Ea 6 .a. junior officers The junior frigate is charted second semester of '54-'55 for sailing sen- ior seas.
