CGMUS Zin illtvmnrinm Bernard J. Mechling, one oi the young and honored sons oi Lash Senior High School, was horn in June, 1896, and passed away on Nlarch 2, 1957. Bernard graduated from high school in 1915. While here, he was a memloer of the dehate teams, a contriloutor to the Hcomusu, which was then a monthly publication, a member of the play casts, and an ardent supporter of the athletic teams. His inter- est continued after graduation. He did not go to college himself, lout he was an influence toward higher education in the lives of many of the young people with Whom he came in contact. He was a friend to youth, a confident and an advisor, beloved and respected. His play, Half Past Eleven , once produced hy a high school cast, reveals him intimately. Bernard was a true son of our puhlic education, the type we lilce to produce, the model we all should want to follow. The highest compliment we can pay him is to sing with love and respect the song he wrote in March, lQ25, just fourteen years ago, in which he expresses his love and devotion to his school, our Alma Wlater: Dear old Zanesville Hi we love you. And for you, we'll ever cheer And the praises we are singing VVilI echo year to year. Lilce an old friend ever faithful Vve are with you do or die, You,re the right school, Blue and White school, Dear old Zanesville High. Onward, upwards-fis our motto, Through the long and happy days, And the vic-tyries we are winning Will add new praise to praise, Vvhile for you, dear Alma Mater, We will sing it to the sky,-1 You're the right school, Blue and White School, Dear old Zanesville High. .-B. Mechling.
