Naturally in an undertaking of this character I needed a doctor, a secretary, and a business manager. I selected Dr. Thelma McNail, physician, George Graf, business manager, and Yone Daito, secretary. Our first stop was at the thriving town of Ysleta, principal suburb of El Paso. To our astonishment and surprise we found Fred Nelson and Mary Causey hap- pily married, and Fred was one of Ysleta's leading citizens and a prominent attorney. As we left Ysleta, we saw a long fleet of transcontinental trucks on the highway below us. Who do you think owned them? It was no one but little Dick Andress. He was carrying a load of provisions to Max Teat's commissary on a large farm near Fabens, Texas. Our next stop was at the Texas Hotel in Ft. Worth. We were surprised to find Garret Tyra manager, and Mary Jensen the Hotel's public stenographer. We were royally entertained at the winter home of Mr. and Mrs. Shannon, Brady and the former Clarice Sherwood, at Palm Beach, Fla. Also while there we took a short cruise on the Navy Ship, Texas, the cap- tain in charge being Alfred Valentine, and on the boat we listened to the Naval Band directed by Frank Amis. Upon returning to Palm Beach, we visited several points of interest, including the largest government airport, and found June Penn as one of the instructors. We also saw Mary Olvin Phillips modeling in one of the exclusive dress shops. On our way to New York we were pleasantly sur- prised to find Kenneth Ruiz and Buddy Snelson as in- structors at West Point. Our next stop was in Wash- ington, D. C., where we had a very pleasant visit with Senator Woody Downum and Congresswoman Wylis Graham. While we were there Bob Kerley was ap- pointed third assistant Attorney-General. Our next stop was New York City, where we found Mary Lee Walbridge operating a women's exclusive ready-to-wear shoppe. We heard Oliver Williams and his orchestra play at the Waldorf-Astoria. We also found Carl Dawson head of a brokerage house. Upon visiting the U. S. Consulate, we met Francisco Holguin and Louis Telles, who were in the government service, with Josephine Gomez and Marie Bowling acting as their secretaries. On our visit to Princeton we saw Louis Cuthbertson as head coach, Elvin Kerley as as- sistant coach, and Johnny Pitts as athletic director. Just outside of Princeton at a girl's camp we found Winifred Brock and Beatrice Klabock in charge. Alton McCleskey had one of the largest churches in Princeton. Our next stop was Chicago, where we met Channing Champie writing poetry, Virginia Cramer teaching dancing with Velma Chamberlain as her assistant, Jean Moore broadcasting news over NBC, Mary Kirby- Smith a chief dietitian, and Florence Recker a teacher in the Chicago High School system. We must not for- get to mention Billy Fletcher, Jack James, and James Carr, well-known business men of Chicago, with Faye Fortenberry, Josephine Jarvis, and Elizabeth Crank as their secretaries. Charles Mills was operating Al Ca- pone's famous night club in Chicago. Going over to Pendleton, Ore., we encountered Jessie Daugherty, Kassie Keithley, Virginia Black, Ferrel Clifford, and Oleta Mae Towles running a large dude ranch. At Hollywood many courtesies were shown us by the following cinema stars: Jane Duncan, Neomia Russel, Winona Couch, Marie Dodson, James Perry, and Terrel Karstendickg and, believe it or not, James Brock was doubling for Tyrone Power. After leaving Hollywood, just as we landed in E1 Paso, I fell out of bed and awoke. CLASS HISTORY Fre In September of 1934 there enrolled in Ysleta High School a comparatively small group of students who were destined to bring fame and honor to themselves, their class, and, above all, to their Alma Mater. Since then their number has been swelled by frequent and worthy additions. During these past four years the students of the class of '38 have each and everyone come to love the dear old walls and grounds that surround their school. So it is with a heavy heart and a none too dry eye that the spring graduation is thought of, because this marks the end of a long and glorious history. Truly they are at the end of the trail. The history of the class of '38 has been one of vic- tory in every attempted battle. Among its members have been scholars, athletes, orators, organizers, writers, d Nel son and possibly a future president. Within the last four years the class of '38 has dominated every program, contest, class, or drive of which it was a part. Few times, indeed, has it or its members met with defeat. And even what few defeats they have suffered have been met with a sporting and gallant heart. And even though the class of '38 had its remarkable individuals, they were not lacking in class allegiance. In fact, few, if any, classes or organizations could ever compete with them when it came to unity of purpose and group determination. How well they remembered, Together we stand, divided we fall. So let it be said now and in the future of the class of '38, one of the finest in Ysleta's past, present, and future history, that they were all for one, and one for all.
