Remaining With Old Traditions Every year each class tries to mate :tself known by its clever ;deas and Innovations, but often it is the traditions, kept up each year, that make a school known. The Annual College Night this year included over one hundred colleges, Universities, and trade schools. Academic excellence has long been a Yorktown tradition as over 85% of the Senior class con- tinues on to some form of higher education. A traditional rivalry continued on the football field as the Seniors defeated the. Juniors in pov derpuff football to claim the only unbeaten record in school history. The American Field Ser- vice Program, relatively new at Yorktown, proved to be a valuable exchange of international ideas. Bettie Chiosso from Italy was the exchange student here this year, while Ann Stark traveled to Chile as a representative of the Ameri- cans Abroad Program. Chris Feeley was crowned queen as Wynken. Blyken, and Nod, the annual SCA-sponsored Homecom- ing dance. Also SCA-sponsored was the Leadership Conference, co-ordinated this year by Julia Markrich. The conference served to bring together the leaders of a large number of area high schools to discuss the committment of the individual to his society and to himself. Keynote speaker at the event was Art Buchwald. Worth- while traditions such as these make a valuable contribution to classes of the future, as well as those of the present, and to Yorktown High School itself. 6
