I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine, He said For you to love the while she lives, and mourn for when she's dead. It may be for six or seven years, or twenty-two or threeg But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for me? She'll bring her charms to gladden youg and should her stay be brief, You'll have her lovely memories as solace for you grief. I cannot promise she will stay since all from earth return. But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn. l've looked the wide world over, in my search for teachers true, And from the throng that crowd 1ife's lanes I have selected you. Mr. Heath CLASS HISTORY On September l l, 1942, seventeen eager children walked into a new and bigger world. Of those first l'7 there are 5 graduating. They are Doris Davies, Paul Price, John C. Morris, James Diss and Kenneth Kundert. We will probably never forget how James kept running after his dad, who was then a bus driver. We were taught our A B C's by Mrs. Leis. Mrs. Leis and Mrs. Jones continued the leadership in our training. During this year 2 new students came to join our class. There were Bill Evans and J anell Swygart. Mrs. Jones was our teacher in the third grade also. We will never forget about all of us getting our mouths taped shut because we were talking without permission. ln our fourth grade of school, we had Mrs. Zinn as our teacher. We gained no new class- mates, and we lost no classmates. Evidently nothing exciting happened to us because none of us can think of anything which happened. Don and Jeannine Vandemark joined our class at the beginning of the fifth grade. We were under the supervision of Mr. D. Edwin Jones. Mr. Jones was also our supervisor during our sixth grade. REMEMBER the time when we all had to line up for spankings? Who threw that piece of chalk anyhow? ln the seventh grade, Mrs. Emerald Pugh was our new teacher. Do you remember when Jeannine had to get up in front of the class and give a great big long speech ? l'm certain we will never forget that incident. During our eighth year of school, we were high magazine salesmen over all the other classes. For this great achievement, we received ice cream as the prize. This year we had two sponsors. They were: Mr. Toll, who had to leave to serve in the armed forces, and Mr. Shade. Finally, we entered high school. This year we sponsored the noon movies. Our Freshman sponsors were Mr. Core and Mr. Schwartz, who left to serve in the armed forces: and Mr. Heath. Bill Lloyd became a member of our class during this year. Our Sophomore year was one of the most successful. It was during this year that we began to realize how hard a class had to work to earn money for its future use. We sponsored a box social and we were the first class to have a Valentine's Dinner. It was during this year that LaDonna Eversole became a member of our class. Our Junior year, too, was a busy and successful year. We sponsored a play The Ghost of Possum Hollow which was directed by Miss Janice Ragon. Some of our other money making schemes were: bake sales, raffles, basketball concessions and the Thanksgiving Dinner. We were also hosts to the Senior Class and the faculty for the Senior Reception which was held at the Marsh Hotel in Van Wert. It was during this year that Lewis Brinoefield became a member of our class. At last the time finally arrived when we would be graduating from high school and would become alumni of York High School. Some of the top events of our senior year were: the class play, which was presented on May 13 under the direction of Mr. Heath. It was called What A Family and what a family it turned out to be when Doris and Jeannine got the giggles in the third act. We were honored guests at the Junior - Senior Reception on May 20. Then came the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises which signified the end of our high school career. These were held on May 22, and May 24. On May 28, we were accepted into the York Alumni and then on May 30 we started on our trip to New York and Washington. This topped the events of our senior year. This is the history of our twelve memorable years of school. Here is the past and now it will be up to each individual to go his separate way from the rest and make his future as memor- able as has been the past for him. CLASS WILL We, the Seniors of 1955, wish to hereby state our last will and testament. To the Faculty: We will our good behavior that was shown by each and every one of us in almost every class. To the Freshmen: We will our ability or luck to throw chalk, erasers, and any- thing else we could get our hands on and get away with it. To the Sophomores: We will to you the hope that you will graduate with eight boys in your class. To the Juniors: We will our athletic ability and the art of having class co- operation. Lewis Brinceiield, will my hair to Mr. Fishbaugh. Doris Davies, will my ability to get out of study hall to Anne Overholt. James Diss, will my huge collection of stale gum, which I placed through out the school building during the past twelve years, to Mrs. Maurer. Bill Evans, will my ability to stay out until all hours of the morning to Charlie Profit. LaDonna Eversole, will my ability as 4-H President Qfor 4 yearsj to anyone who can stand it. Kenneth Kundert, will my ability to get along with all students to Mr. Hartman. Bill Lloyd, will my ability to disagree with teachers to Roger Eversole, Janell Swygart, will my ability as Editor-in-Chief of the Talisman to Eileen Price. John C. Don Vandemark, will my physique to Bob Patterson. CLASS PROPHECY R. F. D. I Venedocia, Ohio May 24, 1975 Dear John C.: Well, 20 years have passed since that day we received our diplomas. Having kept track of all twelve, I thought I would write and tell you about each one. I hea.r you are pretty busy farming those 3000 acres, and that in your spare time, you are County Agent of Cowlick, Iowa, to say nothing of being married to a 1956 alumni of York. You remember JEANNINE VANDEMARK? Well, besides being a housewife and the mother of twin boys, she also teaches piano lessons to children in the surrounding community. BILL LLOYD finally settled down and is now pitching for the Cleveland Indians, replacing Bob Lemon. He is known world wide as Indian Bill. JAMES DISS is now in Canada where he is making a living at hunting and trapping. Re- member how he liked to hunt when he was in school? It is also said that he struck gold and has a yearly income of Sl25,000. While visiting the Bluffton College Campus the other day, I saw J ANELL SWYGART. She is professor of Home Economics now and enjoys it very much. She is always in charge of the judging at the Van Wert County Fair and our own Farmer's Institute. BILL EVANS is now farming his parent's farm for they have retired and moved to the city. lu his spare time he writes pamphlets on agriculture. He is also married and has three children. LEWIS BRINCEFIELD is a great contractor, and is at the head of the Brincefield Bridge Builders. They have reconstructed practically all of the bridges in Ohio and are now working in Although he travels a lot, his permanent home is in Delaware, Ohio. The redhead, DORIS DAVIES, is now a Certified Public Accountant, and has a wonderful job in Columbus. She is another one of our classmates who is married. In her spare time she sings with the Longines Choraleers. DON VANDEMARK, now living in Elgin, is one ofthe best farmers in York Township. He farms about 200 acres. He has set up a Children's Center in Elgin and works there in his spare time. KENNETH KUNDERT is now a pilot for T.W.A. He has broken the world's transport re- cord for flying around the world. At the moment he is trying to get a patent for a new devioe he has placed on his plane. His home station is Baerfield in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. LaDONNA EVERSOLE'S being valedictorian has really made life pleasant for her. She is now President of the Central Mutual Insurance Company at the Van Wert Home Office and is still setting her goal higher each day. She is also married and still lives in York Township. As for me I recently returned from China where I serve as an Agricultural Ambassador, and in my spare time I farm a 150 acre farm here in York Township. I am married and have three children. The ghost Terrible Terrence is blamed the radio as being connected traps start going off and Mr. Dingleberry is discovered in a closet. Of course, for what has happened. Miss with the thieves, so the boys Priss is identified over 1 tie her up. One of Terrence's gang, while treking through the surround- ing woods, finds a stalled State Police car which the robbers had stolen for their getaway and sent out the fake description of Miss Priss over the f short wave broad- caster as a joke. Finally mm the State Troopers arrive-- j led to the scene by the short 'X' wave radio beam. The robbers, in their ' flight step into possum traps r one of the boys set in the woods and are caught, Terrence and his is friends are just M, about to be sentenced by Mr. Dingleberry to far off A- Q Siberia, when the 'fx troopers intervene,saying had it not been for the radio F' call they never I would have come to Possum Hollow. She is ashamed of them before her new boy friend, Eric Van Nuys Uohn C. Morrisj, who has driven her home from the New York home of her friends the Stanleys. Even Steve Bradford fPaul I V Pricey, her small-town sweetheart, who has always , Q G seemed just right, now becomes a country bumpkin. V f . Of course, this doesn't go down well with the ' - family, and Pa forbids Judy to have anything to do with Eric. But Judy goes ahead and makes a date with Eric. Pa discovers her leaving and for- bids her to go. Judy defies her father and goes and gets into Eric's car. Pa has one of his spells which always scares the family and Shirley, having witnessed the quarrel between Judy and her father, thinks he is dying and runs out into the rain after Judy. E Y J She falls and sprains her ankle and is found, taken K to the police station, and then brought home by an officer fLewis Brincefieldj, before the family, who f thought she was in bed asleep, learns she is out of H, the house. No word is heard from Judy until well after ' rnidnite, when she calls and says she is being held as a witness at a nite club where Eric took her. What a mad scramble is made to get the amount Judy needs, without letting Pa or Ma know of her trouble. Granny turns thief and robs everyone in the house of all their savings, and sends Steve on the way to Judy's rescue. In due time he returns home with Judy, a much chastened girl.
