A, ' In September, 1942, 16 bright-eyed youngsters walked into the York building to start forming their brain tissues under the direction of Mrs. Teegarden, who was to be their teacher during the first grade. Remember when Gloria Welker had to sit in the corner? Mrs. Edith Jones and Mrs. Leis instructed usin our second year of school. During our third year of school under the direction of Mrs.J ones, we began to learn our multiplication tables. RC' member when we would try not to miss school so we could get a present? We gained two pupils, Jim and May Myers during our fourth year of school during which Mrs. Eva Zinn was our teacher. James Grisby left us during this year. Mr. D. Edwin Jones taught us during our fifth and sixth grades. It was during the fifth grade that Alice Krugh joined our class. At last we could move upstairs. Wewere now in Junior High with Mrs. Emerald Pugh as our teacher for both years. Freshmen! Now, we are in high schooll How time fliesl Mrs. Nettie Davis was our sponsor for our first year of high school. During our Sophomore year under sponsorship of Mr. Robert Schnarre, we started building our class trasury by selling pennants with the Duke emblem on them. On March 29, we sponsored a minstrel which proved a great success, Mr. James White sponsored us in our very busy Junior year, We received our long-awaited class rings on November 26 and served the Christmas dinner. On April 24, we presented our Ju- nior Class Play, Poor Father , which proved agreat success. During the summer we lost Alice K.rugh and Wayne Gamble. CMr. and Mrs. Wayne Gamble.D Seniors, at lastl It was avery tiresome but enjoyable year under the direction of Mr. John C. Gamble. Our class play, The Campbells Are Coming, was presented on March 12. Baccalaur- eate and Commencement were the last and most memorable events of our Senior year, and of our high school days. It is truethatinMay, 1954, theclass of '54 died, but its members will always carry with them that spirit of the Class of '54 . will We, the Seniors of 1954, being in sane mind and almost sober in thought do hereby swear that the following is correct to its utmost ability. I, Gloria Welker, will my scholastic ability to anyone who can stand it. 4, .Tzassphecq May 25, 1964 Dear Kate, Well, ten successfulyears have passed since we left York High. Those were the good ole days. Our classmates who graduated with us are scattered all over the United States now, but I finally succeeded in locating them. I received a letter from Gloria Welker recently. She has graduated from college and is now teaching at Huntington High School where she is sponsor of the Senior Class. During the summer months, she is crime reporter for the Huntington Times . I hear she is planning to marry the editor's son in June. The former Ruth Pruden, who is now Mrs. Gable Ir. , is seeking a divorce from her actor husband and it is rumored that she plans to marry her producer as soon as she finishes her present picture, Keep 'Em Guessing . Marguerite, formerly Miss Burcaw, and her husband, Eddie, are owners of the Germann Dairy farm. They are proud parents of two boys, the oldest of which starts to -school in the fall. Hugh Jones still carried his old nickname, Ionsey . He is now living with his charming wife, a photographer's model, in Indianapolis where he recently won the National Hot Rod Races. Hughie, Ir. is following in his father's footsteps and recently won the National Soap Box Derby at Akron. As for John Dolbey, he is now coaching his own professional basketball team, the Midgets', who recently won the world's championship title. His shortest player is 5'9 in height, and his tallest, 6'11 . No doubt you have seen them on color television several times. By the way, John is still unmarried but it is rumored he has a list of prospectives. . Studebaker Incorporated has a new president, none other than our old classmate, Harold Allen. Recently he designed a car to fit every need . It is said that millionaires have thrown their Cadillacs away for his new car, and ranchers have replaced their jeeps for his latest model. His very efficient wife acts as his personal secretary when she is not busy taking care of Harold, Jr. Kenneth Boley has decided, along with his wife, to make the Navy his career. Recently he was promoted to the rank of Lt. Commander: and his wife to that of Lieutenant in the Nurse Corps. They are happily married and have a beautiful, golden-haired daughter who lives with her grandmother. Poger Price has migrated to louisiana, where he recently purchased 5, 000 acres of swamp land on which he raises alligators. He is making several million dollars a year from the alligator skins which he sells to merchants all over the world. lbger and his five-foot wife are proud par- ents of quintuplets, all girls, who will celebrate their eighth birthday on July 4. I suppose you and Wally are living in your new home on 709 by now. Say, how are those twins, Marie and David, coming along? As for me, Ihave attained my career as an old maid. I am planning totake a trip around the world starting in May and I expect to be gone for over a year. Come and visit me when I get back and I'll tell you about the world and its problems.
