Na ,ff Class History At the beginning of the school year in 1941, 23 pupils started to school. Out of the 23 which started there are 11 of us graduating. We were taught our ABC's by Miss Ruth Johnson. Mrs. Edith Jones was our teacher in the second and third grades. During the third grade Deloris Price became a member of the class. Remember how we use to say we lost our ReadingBooks and got to set with each other. Was- n't it fun? The fourth grade was under the instructions of Mrs. Mable Wright and Mrs. Eva Zinn. Mr. D. Edwin Jones taught us in the fifth and six grades. Richard Krugh became a member in the six grade. In the seventh and eight gradesMrs. Emerald Pugh instructed us. During the seventh grade Clark Shaffer be- came a member of our class. Remember when Marvin Welker had to stand in front of the class with gum on this nose. We finally became members of high school. As Freshmen we were not any greener than any other Freshmen. Mrs. Lois Shackelford was our sponsor. It was during our Sophomore year that our good characterists began to really come forward. The class entered into many activities of the school. This year Mrs. Frances Robinson was our sponsor. The Junior year found us more conscious of our importance in school. One of our marked triumph was Calm Yourself , under the supervision of Mr. John Keller. As underclassmen we had always look forward to the time when we could wear our class rings and now---our dreams have come true. Seniors! The height of our ambitions up to the time we reached it---and then---were we ready? At first we felt horrified and incapable since we were the oldest students in school and much depended on us butin a short time we were ready for work. The last events ofthe year willnever be forgotten by all of us. The Class Play, Baccalureate, and Commence- ment are all marked events in our school life that we love. Can we say that in May, 1953 the class of '53 died? It is true it ceased to exist as organized in York High School. But its members will always carry with them that spirit of The Class of '53. Class Will We, the Seniors of 1953, being in sane mind and almost sober in thought do here by swear that the following will is correct to its upmost ability. To the Juniors: We will our quiet dispositions and excellent behavior. To the Sophomores: We will our excellent grades and our remarkable way of getting along with the faculty. To the Freshmen: We will the monuments of our school days of good old York, such as: broken furniture, well written walls, carved desks, flying chalk, and our overly used books. To the Faculty: We will the future Seniors and hope that they will be as perfect ex- amples as wehave been in the past. I, Mary Ellen Boley, will my quietness to Ruth Ann Welker. I, Larry Cozad, will my little black book, full of girls names to Lowell Lewis. I, Rebecca Hughes, will three inches of my height to Phyllis Ross. I, Richard Krugh, will six inches of my height to Bill Evans. l, Reed Linton, will my ability to sleep in class to Eileen Price. I, Ioy Lynn Morris, will my yelling ability to anyone who can stand it. I, Diane Nichols, will my ability to type to the Typing I boys. I, Gene Oberlitner, will my ability to stay away from girls to Don Vandemark. I. Deloris Price, will my devotion of good-looking males to Kathryn Profit. I, Clark Shaffer, will my Charles Atlas course to Harold Allen. l, Marcia Taylor, will my teh book reports to Doris Davies. I, Marvin Taylor, will my vast collection of Metals to President Eisenhower. I, Martha Van Eman, will my long hair to Anne Overholt. I. Marvin Welker, will my ability to get along with the teachers to any other classman that can't. This page is sponsored by CONTINENTAL CAN, Van Wert, Ohio. Class Prophecy May 26, 1963 Dear Becky, Well, ten years has passed since last we were students of dear ole York High. I suppose you will soon be cel- ebrating your tenth wedding anniversary. I watch your television program, Becky's Tasty Recipes, every Saturday afternoon. I was just thinking the other day, about our former classmates. They all have different occupations, some are married, some are not, some even have children. Joy Lynn Morris is none other than JoyceLynne, the noted actress of the New York stage. In private life, she is married to a Colonel in the Airborne and has two boys. Marcia Taylor is the manager of Earl John's, Chicago's most exclusive department store. She prefers a career to marriage, although she has had several proposals. No doubt you have seen her brother, Marvin, on television. He is master of ceremonies for the program, King for a Week. Martha Van Eman is Ohio's representative from the fifth district in the House of Representatives. Probably, the GOP will nominate her for the Presidency when she becomes old enough. Gene Oberlitner is also in politics as he is the Secretary of Agriculture. Gene is still single but several of the Washington socialities have plans for him. The star of the new movie, 'Melted with the Snow, is Clark Shaffer. Clark has been nominated for the Oscar for his superb acting in the picture. Larry Cozad is the manager of the baseball team, the New York Dukes. The Dukes won the world series last year. Larry is married and has r1ine girls. Maybe he can manage a girls' baseball team. Marvin Welker is the world famous game hunter. He just returned from Africa recently and he broughtback two lions and three tigers for his museum. Diane Nichols is the hair stylist at the NGN Studio in Hollywood and is Ava Turner's personal hair dresser. Diane is another classmate who is married. She is the mother of twins, Dean and Diane. Reed Linton has an 800 acre farm in York Township and was chosen Ohio's Farmer of the Year last fall. It is said that he has one of the largesthomes in Van Wert County, but no doubt he needs a large home for his eight boys. Richard Krugh grad- uated from Annapolis with the highest honors ofthe class and is now a Naval doctor at the WAVE training base on the Great Lakes. Mary Ellen Boley is the commercial teacher at Ohio State University. She set the world's shorthand record at 280 words a minute recently. And as for me, I am a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. Well, I must sign offg I have just been assigned to interview Gregory Ladd, the famous movie star. As you know, I am still single and Mr. Ladd is SO cute. Bill Lloyd, Clark Shaffer, Richard Krugh, John Dolbey, Roger Price. ROW 21 Larry Cozad, Kenneth Boley, Don Vandemark, Kenneth Kundert, Hugh Jones, Paul Price, Paul Ramirez. Clark Shaffer - a senior who starred at center in his first year with the Dukes. He will be badly missed next year. Roger Price - a big boy who can get the rebounds. Roger will help us next year as center. Bill Lloyd - a boy that can really go up in the air. Bill has a jump shot that will really help York in his next two years. Kenneth Boley - a tricky ball player who is a good dribbler, shot, andpasser. He will be back next year. Paul Price - a good shot who played lots of Varsity and Reserve. He should show what he has in the line of basketball next year. Hugh Jones - a tricky ballplayer who really helped the team. Hugh is a junior and will be back next year. John Dolbey - the highest scorer on the team. John is deadly on his set shots. He has another year to prove his worth to the Dukes. Kenneth Kundert - a smooth, dependable ball player. He will be a great help next year. Richard Krugh - a senior, Richard played Reserve center. He played good ball and will be missed next year. Don Vandemark - a ballplayer who makes up for his lack of heighth with a lot of drive, he is another of the sophomore wonders. He worked hard to develop a good, sound ballclub, and the boys played hard to win some games for him. With the boys who are coming back next year, he should really have a good team.
