A two year nursing program was introduced to Prescott, September 1969 when Yavapai College opened and is the seventh Associate Degree Nursing program offered in the state of Arizona. Although the Associate Degree nurse is prepared primarily to function in a general hospital setting, other areas within the scope of nursing are avail- able to her through continuing education. Many of these classes are on campus while others are offered as extension courses in cities throughout the state. The Yavapai College Nursing Education program is under the direction of Mrs, Barbara Kitchens, RN. She is assisted by Mrs. Wanda Plumstead and Mrs. Ruth Westerinen. On August 31, 1970, the Nursing Department enrolled 20 women and one man. This brings the Associate Degree Nursing students to a total of 30, which includes nine students in their second year. 105-

Y.C.'s chapter is the fourth such chapter in Arizona. A state leadership con' ference was held March 27 in Tempe, with Dolores Smith, Kathy York, Joel Buehler, Denise Steed, Don Cook, Chris Gere, Bill Hadley, Kris Helvig, Karen Hurst, John Mozingo, and Bobbie Frakes representing Y.C. A national Phi Beta Lambda conference is to be held in Miami, Fla., this June. Phi Beta Lambdas motto- Building Tomorrow's Leaders Today, seems quite appropriate. '71 4, CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP Evelyn L.
