Princess Ree, from papoose to squaw, has blazed many trails with the students of Yankton High, traveling with them tb a.l.l school activi- ties as the spirit of YHS, All though she could not be seen, she sat behind you at athletic events and helped you cheer the Bucks to vic- tory. She has watched the students as they proudly received their awards on Awards Night and stood by as they enjoyed themselves at school dances. She has cried, as every year she has seen the latest graduating seniors don their caps and walk across the stage to re- ceive their diplornas. The Princess has also watched the faculty as they gave their best to prepare these students for the life ahead and she has smiled proudly as she has seen the results of this faculty's four years of hard work. As you thurnb through the pages of this book and see the Princess brought from spirit to reality, we hope you will recall the spirit and fun you left in the old brick walls of YHS. 5' 4 T ,, E . 1 ll 1 4 1 l 1 1 . Everyone asked the same question that first day: Where is Room 18? or Where is Room 28? We finally learned our way around and ended up the year with a wonderful picnic out at the State Lake. Our wonderful picnic ended up with a not-so-wonderful cloud- burst. The Big Wheels, our second year, were lhve Bride, John Boyles, .Tack Coates, and Sally Nusinson. The first semester we gave the most ter- rific assembly ever shown in YI-IS. It will never be equalled. We intro- duced to the citizenry of YHS the Liberacel I-Ie WEB a great hit and our class will never forget him. We again ended up the year with a picnic at Van Osdel's farrn. 'I'he weather was better that year. Our Junior year started right off with hard Work. After electing our Moguls: Tom Hanson, Jack Coates, Carol Lehman, Sandra Hansen, We sold magazines. 'I'hen we put on a tremendous play, Stage Door . Then we planned and carried out our Mardi Gras and had one of the most successful ever presented in YHS. We worked even harder and gave the seniors a grand banquet and prom and, of course, ended up with a picnic. Our Senior year was taken up with taking tests of all sorts. Of course we elected our Top Brass: .Tohn Boyles, Bob Stewart, Carol Lehman, and Larry Obr with the Chiefs Of Staff consisting of Miss Bang, Miss Burgi, Mr. Bauer, Mr. Schiller, and Mr. 'I'hrall. This spring we pre- sented the most different and most colossal, of all different and col- lossal, Remarkable Incident at Carson Corners . Now the time is rapidly approaching. We are looking forward to stumbling across the stage and obtaining our coveted sheepskinsu. Then it will be all over. You have seen the last of the Class of 56 but you will never cease to hear of them. fand from them. j Jxx I ki. F 'ik. -V fl K' W What a catastrophe! I Our Coxmty Cornmissioners in jail. WOW! The Bucks saw one of the toughest years in the conference. Having only two losses in the E. S. D. conference, put. them in second place. 'I'he Buck losses in the E. S. D. conference were to Mitchell and Aberdeen with scores of 14 - 7 and 2.1 - 7 respectively. In the last three years the Bucks have won 2.5 games and lost only 3, which is a very good average. The first loss of the season was to Vermillion, a 13 - 12 thriller. Although it was not a conference loss, it really hurt. It was the game which broke Yankton's Z0 game winning streak. In total points scored, the Bucks scored 109 points while their opponents scored only 81, so you see it wasn't the play- ing that hurt us, it was the bad breaks. Maybe next year the Bucks will start another winning streak. Head Coach Lars Overskei Asst. Princess Ree once again slips back into the supernatural as the spirit of YHS. She has led you through her experiences of the year 1955-56. The ex- periences she had were those of the students of YI-IS, she shared in the fun and the excitement, the victories and the heartbreaks. She walked across the stage at graduation and she too felt the tinglings and the joy of each graduate as he received his diploma. As she bows out Princess Ree Wishes good luck in the future to the gradu- ating students and hopes that this book will always remind them of their years in YANKTON HIGH-I . 1
