,ll ,A 4 s f l 1 VT l xl, r Q if 21 SENIOR PERSONALITIES AR ICKA RA ROYALTY MARLAN Stub HOELLWORTH AN'l'OINE'I'TE Toni GOEDEN A howling wind on October 3 lured the fire department to the scene and two weeks' toil lay in ruins-all the boxes were soakedg yet lack of the traditional bonfire on Arickara eve failed to dampen the hilarious spirits of the swarming SOO as they gathered around to hear Bill Tschetter, Student Council president, proclaim Marlan Hoellworth and Antoinette Goeden Arickara Chief and Squaw for the 1940-41 Homecoming festivities. Nominated this year by the school as a whole instead of the Student Council, Stub and Toni were chosen by a majority from the eight final nominees. Honoring the Chief and Squaw was an afternoon assembly program followed by the traditional football game. Here, the Chief with his spectacular 80 yard touchdown boosted the score 20-7 to defeat the Madison Bulldogs, An evening of jitterbugging to Art Barnes and his orchestra rounded out the day's activities. ' li r 1 'J' l L ri 1 I it ,M iff GRAS ROYALTY DELMAR NELSON, HAZEL KREYKES To the blare of three trumpets, the second annual Mardi Gras King and Queen, Delmar Nelson and Hazel Kreykes, elected by popular vote and robed in shimmering satin, advanced toward the stage to receive their crowns from Kenneth Brimmer, Student Council president, on the evening of February 22. Following the coronation the La Conga by Marilyn Monfore and jackie Pruitt and stage performances by the Campus Muscats, Yankton College Orchestra, completed the stage show. Noisemakers, dancing, confetti, balloons: the Mardi Gras, annual music department festivity, had full swing. l9
