'Q Newspaper, Student Council lj Y-C Expression editors Tami Miller and Rachel Hampton pub- lished 17 editions during the school year which covered both school and community news. Copies were distributed to boxholders in Gaston, Carlton, and Yamhill as well as to students. At the 1978 Mt. Hood Community College Mass Media Competition held in February, the newspaper received five awards and 4th place in sweepstakes for AA schools. ln April the staff learned that the Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded the newspaper lst place in its annual newspaper fundamentals contest. Out of a pos- sible 1,000 points, the Y-C Expression received 878 points. NEWSPAPER STAFF--FRONT ROW: Tami Miller, Mrs. Dillin, Rachel Hampton. SECOND ROW: Mahlon Beachy, Wes Long, Michelle Bertrand, Gay Mealue, Hope Tuohy, julie Van Dyke, Kim Larsen, Meri Rieley, Donna Givson. TOP ROW: David Richardson, Terry Savage, Terin Tolleson, Phil Sanders, jaNeva Stanley, Bill Larkin, Cindy Bodeen, Lori Wirth, julie Fox, Judy Sutton. 25 Student Council had a busy year for making decisions on numer- ous suggestions ranging from bike racks to doors on the stalls in the boys bathroom. Student Council organized Parent- Student Swap Day, and sponsored 3 live band dances during the year. Bleachers were purchased for the 11-ack and baseball fields. They voted to have a football rally. They also purchased a letter sweater for exchange student Kristin Rikter Svendsen. S ,ws-f 71,84 o y, xi . --' .P f -. ADBGCI The Y-C Chorus held its Christmas con- cert. They also set up a scholarship for the outstanding chorus student. The ensemble made trips to league schools, held a pop concert, and sang for the Lions Club. Chorus and ensemble were directed by Kathy Koch. Martha Van Cleave was the sponsor for the Bible Club. The group went to see the play Godspell. They also held a spaghetti dinner in February. Their meetings were held Weekly. lk, Ls, xl: The band was directed by Bob Yonker who is a member of the Salem Wind En- semble. The band held an exchange as- sembly and participated in the annual band contest in April. Mr. Yonker felt the positive attitude of the members was the key to the band's success this year. 4 Yearbook, ational Honor Society 3j Tiger Lines had few major changes this year. Advertising sales in- creased considerably and this year's book sold more copies than any other Y-C annual. Besides working on the yearbook, the class took on a new project, a calendar to help raise money for next year's yearbook. BACK ROW: Vicki Smith, janet Thornton, Shari Sager. 4j National Honor Society tapped in 15 new members. Traditional gold tassels were presented to seniors. Two community projects were done by NHS, painting the Yamhill park booths and painting the Carlton park benches. A picnic was also held at the Flyning M.
