CMM C W ,fs lx N...-Q First row: left to right: Norma jean Kelly, Peggy Taylor, Betty lean Davis, Emma Lou Carter, Nan Linville. Second row: Margaret Ann Myers, Rosemary Taylor, Blanche Pardue, Martha Leigh Shermer. Third row: Peggy Hudspeth, Coach A. C. Holloman, Lois Hall. The Yadkinville High girls, paced by their brilliant guard and captain, Betty Jean Davis, had a much improved team as the season progressed. They won ten games, tied one, and lost two in their last thirteen games. A main feature of the team was its splendid defense- holding opponents to less than an average of twenty points per game. No team in the North- west could boast such a fine defensive record. Of this squad of basketball warriors only two, Betty Jean Davis and Peggy Taylor, will be lost by graduation. Supporters may look for even greater accomplishments when another season rolls around. Coach A. C. Holloman said that he had never worked with a finer group of players. 27 1. BUYS' BASKETBALL First row, left to right: Donald Shore, Marshall Haire, Tommy Williams, Brady Hanes, jerry Helton. Second row: Coach A. C. Hollonian, Charles Beavis, Ir., Billy Draughor., J. D. Davis, Marler Driver, Franklin Mackie. Absent when the picture was made: Ralph Holcomb and Elwood Williams. The boys' basketball team was the hottest team in the Yadkin County high school race. Coach A. C. Hollomanls strong quint posted an undefeated mark in eight county high school outings to win county honors. I. D. Davis, 6' 235' pivot man, was the teams leading scorer. He averaged better than ten points per game. He was closely pressed on the offensive by Billy Draughon, Charles Beavis, and Marshall Haire. The starting five were Davis, Beavis, Draughon, Haire and Franklin Mackie or Donald Shore. Shore and Draughon played the forward positions, Davis, the center, and Haire and Beavis were the guards. Haire was probably the best floor man on the team and was also considered one of the best set-shots in the county. The good balance which the team possessed probably contributed more to its success than any other one thing. Coach Holleman, an All-North State Conference player while at A. C. C., also deserves a big boost for the work he did with the team. He also doubled as the girls, coach. Both teams were handicapped for the past two seasons by having to play without a home gym. All their home games, and all their practices were carried out on foreign courts. Coach Holleman praised the ball handling and play making ability of Forward Billy Draughon and the all around spirit of the club. The team was a heavy favorite to top the county title. Leading reserves were Marler Driver, 6'23Q,' center, Jerry Helton, Tommy Williams, Balph Holcomb, Brady Hanes, and Elwood Williams. This year the team won the Yadkin Valley Conference which Was played in the gym of the Cilvin Both Y. M. C. A. in Elkin, North Carolina. This Conference included four counties- Alleghany, Surry, Yadkin, and Wilkes. I. D. Davis and Marshall Haire Won All-Tournament honors. 26

This bus is available for use to all organizations of the school and enables the school to sponsor a number of activities that would ordinarily be beyond the reach of the pupils. Trips arc made more practical and more fun by all pupils traveling together under the supervision of a teacher. The athletic teams, especially, have benefited from using the bus during the present school term. 28
