V '9M ,fi NSS 'lx an BUCCANEER Tw., O C fbeiacalaan Amidst a great world war, we are publishing our annual. A war of terror, fear, and hate, a war whose deadly fangs penetrate into our hearts, a war whose ultimate end we pray to be soon. Our boys, whether on land, sea, or in the air, are all Eghting for the same cause, FREEDOM. Freedom to speak, think, and act as we please, freedom of loving and living to the fullest de- gree, freedom to be governed democratically. Oh, how we cherish that right and wish to retain it for all pos- terity! Many are the ones who have gone before us and have fought and died so valiantly. To them we pay great honor. But to our own boys who are or will be in the service of their country, we so proudly dedicate our annual. To you boys, the leaders and citizens of to- morrow, in whose hands rest the fate and future of our nation we pay greatest tribute. God Bless You! God Save You! 'A' 'A' i' The 1944-45 basketball season was a brief one for Coach H. G. Patterson's Junior High lads. The eighth grade team won 9 and lost 2 of their 11 games while the seventh grade team won all 6 of their contests and Hnished the season unde- feated. The twelfth annual Junior Hi-Nite was the big event of the season. In the preliminary, Spring Hill defeated a bigger McKinley team ll-8 for the grade school championship. Central Juniors climaxed their season by winning from Oakwood 28-23. The Robert Moore Foul Shooting Trophy was won by Bobby Montgomery, a Central seventh grade pupil. Music was furnished by the Junior High Band under the direction of Zaner Zerkle and extra entertainment was presented by Floyd Wallace. As a finale to the program the entire Junior High team and their guests were entertained at the Senior High Hangout. Junior Hi Cheer Leaders Presentation of Foul Shooting Trophy Fifty one l 9 4 5 . During the yea1's it has grown and last year it was decided to present the top twelve boys with a letter. A The team was composed of boys from the ninth to twelfth grade. The team strives for better poise and better co-ordination of the mind and muscles. The boys performed between halves of the basketball games and gave their best exhibition Physical Education Nite by demonstrating front and back rolls, free flips, head stands, hand springs, etc., using the spring board, parallel bars, the horse and a ring six feet in diameter. Each of their programs closed with the boys building some variation of a pyramid. f AA BUCCANEER Fiftyrwo Xenia Henkel 'Wieck 7eam 'A' First Row-Kenneth Smith, jerry Jacoby, Don Martin, Fred Matson Cmanagerj, Bud Pramer, James Owens, jack Brunton, Edward Bridgeman. Richard Thomas and Graham Justus took over the ship of state as president and vice president respectively. Dallas Jack scribbled his way through the year as secretary, and Becky Bahns handled the money. Our advisors were Mr. Boxwell and Miss Williams . . . this was the year the sophomore girls sold candy in the halls at noon . . . and we gave our first dance. Our Junior year saw the re-election of Richard Thomas as president and Graham Justus as vice president. Marijane Long took over the secretarial duties and Ruth Ella Moll became treasurer. Mrs. Deen and Mrs. Nybladh were our advisors. We sold food at the games and sponsored a few dances to help increase the class fund. Being hosts and hostesses of the prom was a duty we well per- formed . . . we were the first class to make it a dinner-dance. We chose The Saturday Evening Ghost, a mystery comedy for our class play. Our class rings were chosen in '44. We first realized what it was to be a senior when ten of our classmates grad- uated at midyear exercises in January of 1945 . . . Young April was selected for our senior class play . . . we attended the prom as guests of the juniors . . . then, last and most impressive came the day of graduation. We have left our marks upon the pages of history of Xenia Central and have become traditions of our School. BUCCANEER Filfy Eight sczmze SEPTEM BER- 5-School Opened 15-Wilmington Game There 22-O. S.
