Physical Education: O C it Of Competition Exercise, entertainment, and education can all be included in describing the Physical Education Depart- ment. Mrs. Eleanor Davey, P. E. instructor, sees to it that these uthree E's are incorporated into every class. Ask any muscle-sore student and she will testify that exercise is never lacking. From push-ups to sit-ups, the girls puff and pant away those extra pounds. Entertainment? Of course! From volleyball to tennis games a spirit of fun and laughter continually invades the courts. Through the study of Red Cross techniques and first aid, the girls learn how to prevent and correctly care for injuries. The Civil Defense Course teaches the principles necessary for survival in case of nuclear attack. DEFIANCE OF GRAVITY - Anxious frosh await the fall of the basketball to determine who gets the point. 28 ACADEMICS

With 341 voice students, including pianists, 24 speech students, and 500 students in pursuit of 5,000 books, things can get rather involved. In all three catagories there is the valuable experience of research, whether an opera, a patriotic speech, or arti- cles for a bibliography.
