Learning, Life The Reverend ,lohn E. Hopkins, SJ. takes a per- sonal interest in the students of Xavier as their spirit- ual director and Confessor. Often assisting Father Hopkins in offering Mass in the school chapel is the Reverend Francis J. Jansky, SJ. Both Father ,lansky and Father Hopkins instruct the seniors in a weekly marriage course. Finally, through Sister Mary Katrine, B.V.M., principal of Xavier, comes the closest personal guid- ing force - the helpful suggestions, the decisive an- swers, and the stalwart motivations to the students, that they may discover the benefits and oys of knowledge. SENIORS PROBE relevance of Christianity through informal class discussions. Topics range from interfaith dating to the layman's role in the Church. Religion 2 INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONING is encouraged as Jill Zwaska points out , Religion is no longer the sum total of con- fession on Saturday, Mass on Sunday, and no meat on Friday - at least not at Xavier. Through the Hi-Time Magazine, this course has acquired a vibrant, vital approach to Christianity. lt,s main goal, to make religion relevant to daily life, is accomplished during discussion groups in the classroom, followed by practical application of the results. When the nehulous theory that every man is an image of Christ was tested, improvement in school courtesy was noticed, and a deeper under- stzpgdling oi the value of spiritual reading to Sue Ryan, Rosemary Twaddle, and S www Whitney.
