J4ca elem icazs The purpose of a Christian education is to impart Truth. We are placed on earth to know God, the Ultimate Truth. Truth is not llabsorbed by the process of osmosis, but by a particularly arduous procedure commonly called learning. Xavier High School seeks to encourage the highest possible scholastic standards, not only in classes of religion, but also in literature, chemistry, and social science. Although sports and other extra-curricular ac- tivities are necessary for a well-balanced personal- ity, the tendency today is to exaggerate their im- portance. Mere physical f1tness or outward charm is not enough in this highly competitive world. In our scientific age, there is increasing need for young people With keen intellects and inquiring minds. We are living in a materialistic world. We can help change that world. One of our best weapons is Reason itself. Men of today often do not realize that science and reason are always on God,s side, since He is the author of both. Xavier will continue the volleyball games, the dances, the clubs, and all other outside activity that is conducive to a healthy, normal life. These are vital components Which help to make the complete young adult. But Xavier Will always safeguard our more pre- cious gifts--those of the mind, and the soul. And so by encouraging both by giving greater impetus to the more important, we hope to prepare students who are adequately equipped to face challenges of the future, as citizens of the world of tomorrow, and citizens of the World Without End. t .V A.vl V I .
