MY DEAR GIRLS: Sincere congratulations to you as the first graduating class of the New Xavier High School. But greater distinction than being the first class to graduate is that you are a graduate of Xavier High School. By that fact alone you should be different. You have been trained after your wondrous Model, the Blessed Virgin Mary. The education at Xavier High School has set you apart by lifting you up upon a pedestal where man may look up to you for inspiration and help. The modern world will tempt you to come down to its level of thinking and of acting. If you do, it cannot fail to look upon you as an ordinary woman. But remain where your loving Model remained, for all eyes to be raised aloft to see you in all your goodness. Then you are fullfilling your grand vocation of womanhood-by your holy living you make the world better and so much happier. God love and keep you! DANIEL J. KELLEHER, S. J. 9

TO THE STUDENTS OF XAVIER HIGH SCHOOL PHOENIX, ARIZONA Once again some of you are preparing to leave your beloved Alma Mater, having finished a relatively good part of your education. You have enjoyed a singular blessing in the privilege that has been yours of a sound Catholic training. This means that you have been taught the final purpose of life in this world. Man has been created by God lust a little less than the angels, he should not be the slave of lower creation, npr is his destiny to serve the purposes of other men or even of angels, no obiect less than God Infinite and Eternal is worthy of an immortal soul rational and free. This is what true education means-that man belongs to God. Nothing less can satisfy the desires of the human heart because God has fashioned it that way. With congratulations and a blessing, I am Devotedly yours in Christ, I BISHOP OF TUCSON 8

DEAR GRADUATE: Tonight the last act is over, the curtain has been rung down, and you come to the end of a First Performance well done. Before the applause dies away, let me add my own congratulations to those of your friends and loved ones. Let me wish you well in the name of every teacher who has helped you toward this night. As you graduate, our joy is full in the knowledge that you are well-equipped for what lies ahead. The strong foundation of a Catholic education is yours, the bulwark of Christian ideals is firm about you. In your hearts have been sown the seeds of a fruitful love of Truth and Beauty, and before your eyes has been placed the bright image of your Leading Lady. Our task is done, and now it remains for you to carry the lessons learned out onto the greater stage of tomorrow's world. God bless you as you go, and Mary be your Star, your Inspiration. Lovingly, SISTER MARY EMERITA, B.V.M. 10
