Of course you remember, XAVIER, our formal in- troduction . . . our initiation . . . and the nimble circus feats performed by the acrobats of the freshman class. How your baseboards shone at the end of that day! And how many housemaid's knees we had to show for love's labor - lost! Oh, the excitement as we prepared for our first formal dances . . . especially the prom . . . for we sud- denly felt that we were in a grown-up world and quite sophisticated . . . the soft lights and music, and the hamburger after the dance . . . and above all, a real live date! Does a girl ever forget the thrill of her first prom? Our eyes were wide at the beauty of the May coro- nation . . . and misty at the solemnity of graduation . . . and at year's end we realized how much we had grown . . . but how much more we needed to grow in intimacy with Christ and His Blessed Mother. Sophomore year . . . fashions in vogue displayed at our tea for the freshmen . . . and we the stunning models . . . teetering, no doubt, on three-inch heels. Biology . . . and serious young hopefuls dissected frogs after the best manner . . . scientific procedure not- withstanding! Behind-the-scene talent displayed at the VVomen's Club in Smilin' Thru . . . while upper-class- men stole the show. Sophomoric growing pains . . . we had them with a vengeance . . . but Maytime came again . . . and with our Sophomore-Senior Tea we brought the year to a happy end. Brightly beamed our faces as we stepped into your halls as upper-classmen, DQAVIEH, and thump went our hearts in anticipation . . . for we were about to prove ourselves capable of many feats, scholastic and other- wise. Scholastically . . . we showed tendencies to ad- here to the philosophical, especially in the field of apologetics . . . the why, the wherefore, the proof of God's existence . . . and His love. Dramatically . . . we won the school award for M y Cousin from Sweden - without a drop of Swedish blood in the whole cast! Artistically . . . we favored the contemporary . . . busily preparing the decorations for the junior-Senior Banquet. Will we ever forget those beautiful blue orange trees with pink apple blossoms? And our great- est accomplishment . . . which, to this day, I am not quite sure we achieved . . . was the walk in a single line with our coveted daisy chains, attempting to look as little like a weaving strip of wind-blown daffodils as possible. And then came Senior Year . . . at last we were pedestalled above our schoolmates and wielded the temporary sceptre of XAVIER HIGH. The lasting keep- sake of our class rings . . . the rose ceremony on the Vigil of the Immaculate Conception . . . O Mary, I give thee the purity of my heart. Keep it unstained forever! Our final candelighting . . . our last retreat . . . with Father Parrish . . . the struggle to write in- telligent term papers . . . working on the Xavierian, . . . Evening in Paradise . . . our role as guests at the Junior-Senior Banquet . . . and now tonight . . . our graduation. High school days are over, Xavuzn, but never will the lessons you have taught us be forgotten.
