THE BISHOP'S MESSAGE igislgnqzs 'gfiesaiirenre 'ifnrsnmrgtrizmra Q51 Pa 49 RRY' 1 ' 1, A Message From The Bishop To The Students of Saint Francis Xavier School Phoenix, Arizona Man is a rational creature. It is reason in man that makes him different from the brute. Rational beings act with a knowledge of what they do. This is why they have a responsibility for their actions. Yet, in a matter of supreme importance, the majority of mankind act without the least forethought or even in- telligence. God desires and Christ died on the Cross for the salvation of man. How then do we account for this neglect among the vast majority? The answer is a lack of proper education. True educa- tion can never omit from the child's curriculum religion or moral- ity. Real education trains one to know his destiny in life and the world to come. It teaches him to know and to love God. The neglect of proper education is responsible for wars among nations and crimes among men. feditating then on this thought, you must realize what a debt you owe to God, your parents and teachers through whom you enjoy the benefits of a right edu- cation. Be faithful to the teaching that is intended to fit you for this life and union with God in the world to come. Devotedly yours in Christ, 5 Bishop of cson. I X

THE SISTERS' MESSAGE EB Mg S lI' Xavier High School .gg ffL 6g May, 1955 4wwnwna5 Dear Graduate, In the closing hours of Mary's month you will have reached the end of high sdxool days, and graduation night will mean a last farewell to Xavier High. The long-coveted diploma will be yours at last, the lessons over, all the prizes lost or won. We who have been with you through the years, instructing and directing, sharing in your joys and sorrows, know that now at last our task is done, that you are ready to go on without us, equipped with the knowledge and ideals we have given you. But we know, ton, that there is one who can do now what we are powerless to do, for she can go with you out into broader fields, and with her love and guiding hand lead you safely through all the days ahead. Our wishes for you on your graduation night we breathe in prayer to her. Dear Mother Mary, keep her as she is tonight--sweet and pure and beautiful. Remember that once long ago, in far-off Nazareth, you were a girl just as she is, and in your heart were all the wonderful dreams of girlhood. You know the dangers and the pitfalls that surround herg you know how frail she is and how easy it is for her to fail, for you lived in the world and were surrounded by its temptations just as she is. Yet by your own lovely choice you remained loyal to God's trust in you. To your Heart, then, we entrust her--all her hopes and fears, her longings and her aspirations. Let her use her youth and attractiveness, as you did yours, to lead others to the attractiveness of your Divine Son. Strengthen her in purity, in love, in patience. Let her so radiate your own sinless personality that she may bear an unmistakable resemblance to her beautiful Mother. Go with her, Mother Mary, as she leaves us now to enter her own domain of womanhood, Be with her through the years, and bring her at last to that plenitude of loveliness that was your own-- full of grace. Dear little Graduate, place your hand in Mary's today, and keep it there forever. She will never be the first to let go. God love and bless you always. Lovingly, The sisters
