ORBIT ' 65 WYOMING PARK HIGH SCHOOL WYOMING, MICHIGAN VOLUME 28 ORBIT ' 65 SHOWS THE WYOMING SHIFT WyomingParkHighSchool ' s size has almost doubled in the last four years. This growth has brought about many changes in the ambitions and attitudes of Wyoming ' s students. A small, closely-knit student body has been re- placed by a larger one in which no one segment can express an universal opinion. Small groups plan and carry out projects for entire classes. Some students have become lost while others have gained respect and responsi- bility. But the good outweighs the bad in the final evaluation. There is a place for everyone if he will just look for it. More opportunities are offered for stu- dents with varied interests. The faculty has grown with the student body both in numbers and in new techniques and ideas . In athletic competition, Wyoming ' s athletes ha veproven themselves superior, not because they have so much more talent but because they have determination. Wyoming Park High School has matured as it has grown. The SHIFT is not something special, but rather, it is a change which has kept Wyoming ' s students in pace with a growing and changing world. i. The football team pushed on for touchdown after touchdown to bring the final score of 39 to 9 over Kentwood. During the half-time activities, Queen Marilyn Malone promised to uphold the standards of Wyom - ing ' s high standards of sports- manship . The parade of floats showed the creative efforts of each class. The Junior class float, Bye Bye Birdie, was judged best. The homecoming dance, In the Misty Moonlight, followed Satur- day night in the Parkview gym . During the Freshman and Soph- omore years, we gained valuable experience working together on Homecoming floats. Our Soph- omore year float, Sweet Smell of Success, took second in the con- test. The Freshman relay team broke the OK League record. We chose capable Sophomore leaders who inaugurated our money - making projects. Homecoming of our Junior year brought us special status as our elaborately designed float, Right Trackto Victory, won first place . Our first play, Death Takes A Holiday, proved us as fine dra- matic actors. Then in May, after much planning and preparation, we presented an exciting prom at the Morton House Ballroom . Youthful maturity mixed with a thousand future plans describes us as we entered our Senior year, the year of years. Class comedians entertained the school with a comedy, You Can ' t Take It With You. Our athletes proved them- selves supreme as they contributed heavily in helping Wyoming win the OK league Championships. We worked hard together to provide wonderful memories of four years at Wyoming High School . Bonnie Tobin NANCY NORTON checks Mary Timmer ' s graduation cap size. Based upon the per Bonification of deathas a living and intelligent force whose wish was to sample life and discover what it was that makes mortals cling to it so. In the person of Prince Sirki, Death spends three days as the guest of Duke Lambert. During his brief stay, Death dis- coversthe meaning of the signifi- cance of love . Suspense ran high, and burning emotions left the audience and the cast as well trembling, distrubed, and deeply moved. CAROLE WOLFORD looks into the eyes of Death and prepares for Ken Engle to take her to a far greater world. LAURIE SMITH tries to comfort her daughter while the others look on in dismay. SENIORS FEATURE Tou CanH Take It with Ton You Can ' t Take It With You of- fered the Seniors a chance for an entirely different form of presen- tation. It was based upon the lives of a family of neurotic individuals who insisted on living their lives for the pure joy of it. Ever3?thing about this play seemed unusual. Essie ' s clopping inter- pretation of ballet, Grandpa ' s snakes, Penny ' s plays, and Paul ' s horrible smelling firecrackers were reason enough why the au- dience was left in a happy but im- penetrable daze. LOWER LEFT: Ken Engle shouts words of encouragement as Judy Schafer twirls and Dave Dalman shows his satisfaction. The decorations were centered around the ' 64 class motto, Today we follow, tomor- row we lead and the class flower, the daisy. Dick Pearson filled in the ap- propriate humor as master of ceremonies and Mr. Davis ad- dressed the guests. Jim Glenn ' s Combo provided the music during an enjoyable roast beef dinner. The class prophecy and its last will and testament highlighted the evening . La Prima Vera, the spring, was anticipated by the Juniors and Seniors . Held at the Morton House, it provided the social highlight of the year. Spanish at- mosphere prevailed in decora- tions of pinatas, silhouettes, and flowery garlands.
