The Junior Girl Reserves are composed of members from the
freshman and sophomore classes. They are under the leadership
of the music teacher. Mrs. G. Engelien.
The girls found great enjoyment in their service projects, par-
ticularly the Easter party which was given for the children in St.
john's Home. The other project for the season was the making of
cartoon and joke scrap-books for servicemen.
New officers who will serve throughout the next school year
include: Leona Hodges, President, Esther Van Leeuwen, Vice
Presidentg Marjorie Kelder, Secretary, and Arlene Snyder, treasurer.
The symbol common to all Girl Reserves in the United States
is the blue triangle within Al circle. Inside the triangle are the let-
ters G. R. The triangle means YOU, and represents the three sides
of your life - the mental, the physical, and the spiritual. The circle
symbolizes the world in which we live. As the girls strive to "face
life squarely, and to find and give the best," the triangle and circle
expands like the growing individual which it represents.

In 1944, the Girl Reserves limited their membership to the
juniors and seniors only.
The main activity of the year was the Style Show concession
at the Community Round-Up, Each girl worked hard to make it a
huge success.
Another activity was the Ring-Girls, a tradition with the
Y. W. C. A., in which four of the girls took part.
Meetings were held every two weeks in school. Sometimes,
whenever the gym was available, there were basketball games in
which everyone participated.
The Wyoming Girl Reserves were represented at the Y. W.
C. A. at the Mid-Wfinter Conference where representatives of all
the Girl Reserves in Western Michigan met.

Standing-B. Breese, G. jellema, j. Peppler, D. Early, Mr. Zylstra ffaculty advisor,
Sealed-C. De Mull, E. Williams, P. Freeberg, J. Round, W. Chandler.
Early in the second semester, selected members of the class of
"44" went to work with enthusiasm, to produce not just another
"Orbit," but a yearbook which the class can publish with pride.
Phyllis Freeberg was chosen Editor-in-Chief. W'irh the able
assistance of her two associates, Betty Breese and Clair De Mull,
Phyllis worked very hard to accomplish the task of organizing the
book. The fellow who stayed up nights to write some of these
articles, was the Literary Editor, jack Round. Don Early did a
splendid job as Sports Editor. Photography Editor was Bill Chand-
ler. Did he have his worries! No film. His associate was Esther
Wfilliams.
The honors for the "Orbit" assembly and the increased sub-
scriptions, go to the Business Manager, Gay jellema and her associ-
ate, john Peppler.
There is no doubt but that without the advisement, encourage-
ment, and drive of our advisor, Mr. Zylstra, the 'lOrbit" would not
have been the success it is.
