This year several students showed an active interest in forensic activities. As usual, the competition was divided into four classes - oratorical declamation, dramatic declamation, extemporc speaking, and oratory. XY'yoming had contestants in the first three. In the first elimination contest, four winners were chosen. They were: oratorical declamation, Richard Cepella and Alan McDanoldg dramatic declamation, Frieda .Iohnsong and extempore speaking, Eugene Morgan. The District Forensic Contest was held at Rockford. Here XVyoming students upheld the honor of our school by coming away with two first places for the Hrst time in our history. Frieda john- son took first in dramatic declamation and Richard Cepella first in oratorical declamation. As our speaking contests draw to a close we are planning to hold the Regional Contest at our school. There are to he nine schools represented and the competition promises to be keen. At this point we can only wish our speakers good luck and say we are very proud of them. T351

Functioning under the advisor- ship of Mr. Davis the council continued its active schedule, In the course of the year three people held the position of president. Dick Howland and John Peppler entered the armed forces, and the council concluded the year with Betty Breese as president. The council's main achievement was the establishment of a splendid assembly schedule. Betty Breese was chairman of this project, and it was largely through her efforts that we enjoyed such Hne assemblies. I-221 Student ouncil

Mrs. Luyendyk fsponsorj, H. Gott, B. Breese, J. Boelens, K. Bleam, S. Wcmcmdrick. The question-Resolved, That the United States should join in reconstituting the League of Nations-furnished the debate squad with an interesting topic for the season. Such a subject proved itself both stimulating and exciting because it was constantly af- fected by present-day world affairs. Since only two persons of the entire debate squad were return- ing veterans, much time was spent in a review of debating princi- ples and techniques. Betty Breese and Jack Boelens represented Wyoming at a Michigan High School Forensic Association debate tournament held at Grand Rapids Christian. The season has given a profitable yield in experience. The team will lose two members through graduationg but, with a group well-coached in the basic fundamentals and a ques- tion which provides interest and an opportunity for study, Wyon1- ing looks forward to a successful season in 19-44945. i241 Debate
