Through the dry barren wilderness with the He- brew Nationg along the drab halls of a medieval English castleg with Williaiim at the Battle of Hastingsg beside Columbus when he sighted landg near Hancock as he penned his famous nameg at Shiloh, Bull Run and Ap- pomatoxg with the Wright brothers at Kittyhawk, with the invading force in Normandy, in Congress with our representatives - studying history has taken us all these places. In our history, civics and geography courses we have studied men of all a es - their roblems, needs 3 and hopes. Through this study we have gained under- standing of men today. Especially we have been conscious of our govern- ment and its complexities. We have had a chance to observe one of the vital functions of democracy -- voting. This year, the Centennial of the War between the States, brings other significance to stude of history. Witli our Superintendent, Mr. Delaney, being on the Alabama Centennial Commission, we have found this study of peculiar personal interest. Through history we have attained not only know- ledge, but also understanding - understanding that better prepares us to add our chapter in its advancement. Modern Marie Antoinette in European history class writes memoirs lust before being taken to the guillotine.

HE AWS GF SCIENCE A THEMATICS7 As a college preparatory school, Wright stresses study of sciences. Through biology, chemistry and general science, we learn the intricate laws that govern our life processes and environment. ln algebra and geometry we find that almost every achievement is based on mathe- matics - radar, construction, network communication, irrigation, flood control, atomic energy and the study of space. First and second-year algebra, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry are available to any am- bitious student. Through the biological and physical sciences, we explore the myriad secrets that nature holds for man, from the smallest one-cell animal to our vast universe. The microscope, barometer, test tube, flask, crucible and Bunsen burner have become familiar words. Through our seeing mans responsibilities, needs, desires and dreams, a world of wonder and.brightness is opened to us in science.
