ill si' , FIDES, VERITAS, IUSTITIA, CARITAS A motto is a summary of the principles of the organization of institution which adopts it. Briefly and succinctly, it states a philosophy, a guide to action. When our school was organized, we adopted a motto which we felt could be used as a guide to our actions in establishing a new school. We chose carefully, knowing that many to come after us should be able to live constructively by the principles we adopted. Faith, truth, justice and kindness are the foundation stones of our moral building. Faith is first, because without faith - a belief in God and eternal verities - there can be no true foundation. Education is worthless, even dangerous, unless there is recognition of an obligation to use it in accordance with moral rules. Truth is next, because it is the only basis for reliable communication. X'Vithout an earnest desire to attain truth, education is a delusion. Even faith can be misleading if it is not guided by sound reasoning. To believe is not enough: to understand is also necessary. Iustice follows from a belief in moral values and a desire to attain truth. lt is the practice of both in our daily lives. To deal fairly and to be dealt with fairly is the principle that underlies all our school relationships. Kindness follows from justice when there is warmth in the heart. Iustiee can be cold, but when it is tempered with kindness it truly becomes a life principle. To live together in concord is not enoughg as fellow human beings and children of God we must say and do those things which make the world a better place and life a happier experience. These, then. are our aims: to 'have fajth, to seek truth, to deal justly, and to be kind. We know that we may not attain all of them, but we feel that in seeking them We will grow in favor with God and man, and we can ask no more than that. - Caldwell Delaney
