Actually, two years ol' junior high had ollered proof ol' future greatness. Sportswise, the basketball picture was made a little brighter by the Colonels' two-year record ol' nineteen wins and four losses. The gals, too, Qnever to be outdonej were tnaking quite a place lor themselves on the GAA scene with the figures ol' Crow and Heeler llitting around the basketball all-star floor away back in the seventh grade. Under the guiding eye of Miss Helm and Mr. Ortiz, the '49 Colonel wrote and cotnpiled all the junior high news with Dave Smith, as editor-in-chief. All in all, the Class ol '5-l had becotne a big part ol' the junior high scene, and we now looked forward in eager anticipation to real high school life. Freshies we were-with stardust in our eyes. X'Ve invaded every Hgrown-up high school organization, club, or event with youthful glee, so happy to be at last a part of more mature surroundings. Ever present, however, was that leeling of awe when we gazed with longing eyes at the lordly seniors . . . With the donning of johnny Reb caps and the cry ol' The South will rise again! the sophomore year was upon us. One ol' the happiest in all our high school days, we elected our fflontinued on page one httndred thirty-twoj eighteen
