Mary Hendrick was the recipient of the John Philip Sousa award. The W. H. S. Marching Redmen, under the di- rection of Jerald Lindbloom, enjoyed a success- ful marching season. They performed in the Pow Wow Day parade and competition in Huron, and in the Gypsy Day parade in Aberdeen. On Sep- tember 23, 1966, the W.H.S. marching band led the annual Homecoming parade and gave a half- time performance at the football game. The W. H. S. Concert Band gave two concerts this year, the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert. The band journeyed to Huron in Feb- ruary for the Huron College Band Clinic and to Mitchell in April for the Region V Music Contest. In the Regional competition, the band received a superior rating. One member of the concert band, Mary Hendrick, was chosen to participate in the South Dakota All-State Band in the tenor saxophone section. 28

CARNIVAL IS FUN TIME The Woonsocket High School Band Carnival, sponsored by the Band Parents organization, was held in the Armory on October 29, 1966. A variety of booths and games, the cakewalk, the luncheon counter, numerous skits, and a dance added to the enjoyment of all. The sophomore class candidates, Micki Moe and Kevin Tiede were crowned king and queen of the carnival. The juniors placed second, the freshmen placed third, and the seniors fourth. Seniors: Kathy Schroeder and John Sandness.
