Class History Twenty-five Freshmen enrolled at Woonsocket High School on September 3, 1951. The class consisted of Margy Brewster, Roland Beintema, Marilyn Bunkowske, Shirley Dechow, Mary Lou Emerson, Delvin Feistner, Aubrey Fisher, Ronald Goeman, Darlene Goergen, Janice Heaton, Norma Knigge, Alma Larson, Rose Ann Madsen, Ronald Marsh, Donald Olinger, Richard Parsons, Mary Allen Paulson, Valette Pawlowski, Marlene Riesland, Wanda Rumelhart, Sharilyn Schlicht, William Schroeder, Robert Schutt, Viola Smith, Thomas Steichen and Joyce Witt. Class Adviser was Keith Warne. Hubert Scott entered the class during the year. Roland Beintema transferred to Forestburg High School and Marilyn Bunkowske transferred to Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, Minnesota. Rose Ann Madsen discontinued school at the end of the year. Class officers were: President, Mary Allen Paulson; Vice-President, Aubrey Fisher; Secretary-Treasurer, Shirley Dechow. Carnival king and queen candidates were Mary Lou Emerson and Ronald Marsh. During the Sophomore year, officers were: President, Ronald Marsh; Vice-President, Thomas Steichen; Secretary-Treasurer, Richard Parsons, Fred Meier was class adviser. Marlene Riesland transferred to Butte, Montana during this year. Junior Class officers were: President, Mary Lou Emerson; Vice-President, Delvin Feistner; Secretary-Treasurer, Margy Brewster. That year Margy Brewster and Thomas Steichen were crowned Carnival King and Queen of 1953. The class sponsored the Junior-Senior Prom using the theme of Moonlight and Roses. Mrs. Ella Korthals was the class adviser. Boys' Stater was Aubrey Fisher and Girls’ Stater was Mary Lou Emerson. Shirley Dechow transferred to Alpena at the close of this year. In their Senior year, the class elected the following officers: President, Aubrey Fisher; Vice-President, Ronald Goeman; Secretary-Treasurer, Ronald Marsh. Richard Parsons was student body President. Superintendent F. E. Fisher was the Senior Class adviser. Penny Pierce transferred from Sioux Falls and Josephine Atkins entered WHS from Wessington Springs. This brought the total number of Seniors to twenty-four. Margy Brewster and Richard Parsons reigned as Princess and Chief of Ki Yi Day. Attend- ants were Penny Pierce, Mary Lou Emerson, Aubrey Fisher and Ronald Marsh. Carnival royalty candidate were Mary Allen Paulson and Ronald Goeman. Mary Lou Emerson and Tom Steichen were cheerleaders. Senior boys taking part in athletics were Aubrey Fisher, Ronald Goeman, Ronald Marsh, Richard Parsons, William Schroeder and Hubert Scott. Margy Brewster was a member of the Girls Sextet for two years. Janice Heaton was accompanist for large and small music ensembles. Music soloists included Janice Heaton, Josephine Atkins, Bob Schutt, William Schroeder and Aubrey Fisher. Students entering district declam contests were Wanda Rumelhart, Aubrey Fisher, William Schroeder and Donald Olinger. Hi-Life editor was Mary Allen Paulson. Mary Lou Emerson edited the Redmen annual. Mary Allen Paulson also represented WHS as DAR candidate. The class was greatly saddened by the loss of one of its members, Mary Lou Emerson, who was killed in an automobile accident on January 30, 1955. These four students and Mr. Fisher have been part of the Woonsocket Public Schools for twelve years. In the fall of 1943 Mr. F. E. Fisher came to Woonsocket to be Superintendent. This same year Mary Allen, Janice, Ronald and Aubrey enrolled as first graders. 15

'54 Senior Class Play “Going Places , a three act comedy, was presented by the Seniors, April 23, 1954, at 8:00 in the City Auditorium. The scene takes place in the Jackson home. After seeing Aunt Mary (Katherine Houlihan) and Nadine Smith (Theresa Howard) come home from their vacations completely worn out, Mrs. Jackson (Lois Druse) decides that the family should spend it s vacation at home. Mr. Jackson (Gordon Kappel) has his mind set on fishing in the mountains but ends up painting the basement. Elmer Jackson (Jim Forbes), a mischievious young lad spends his time cleaning out the garage by dragging everything into the living room. His pal, Timothy Swanson, (Jim McCoy) comes over to see if he and Elmer can find anything exciting to do. To make the vacation complete, all the in-laws come to visit. Grandpa Jackson and Grand- pa Brown (Jim Davis and Bob Brewer) get into a fight and are hardly able to get around. Grandma Jackson and Grandma Brown are busy scalloping potatoes and bandaging the men. In the midst of the confusion, Mr. Jackson is trying to sign a contract with an important business man, Mr. Hinckley (Bernard Ashfeld).
