Twenty-four students began their sophomore year at Woonsocket High. Robert Merkle discontinued school on September 27» and Myron Befntema trans- ferred to Forestburg High School. The class officers are: Gordon Kappel, president; Jim McCoy, vice-president; Jim Davis, secretary-treasurer. Class advisor is Mr. Meier. Jim McCoy and Janet Gutzmer were carnival king and queen candidates. The total receipts from the sophomore class were $207.39. Eight of the sophomore girls presented the play for the carnival. Janet Steichen, Katherine Houlihan, and Lila Feistner participated in declam work. Shortly after school started, Patricia Thompson and Carl Wolf dropped out. Class officers were Margaret Moran, president; Charles Knigge, vice-president; and John Ball, sec-treasurer. With Mrs. Korthals as advisor, the class raised the most money for the carnival, and won the honors with Charles Knigge and Marva Ammon being crowned carnival king and queen. On a memorable September day, twenty-five freshmen entered the assembly and were introduced to their class advisor, Mr. Warne. On October $» Roland Beitema transferred to Forestburg High School. Class officers were president, Mary Paulson; vice-president, Aubrey Fisher; secretary, Shirley Dechow. Several of the class participated in declam work and Donald Olinger won a superior rating in the local contest. Ronnie Marsh, Aubrey Fisher, William Schroeder, Richard Parsons, Ronald Goeman were active in basketball with Tommy Steichen as manager. The freshmen raised $119.35 for the carnival.
