tfetfaURial SLtufts (Excerpts from the personal files of the SHIELD editor. Janice Howard.) In a reminiscent mood, I commenced to scan the contents of my ne ® morgue, -and I noticed my senior year book »52. As I recalled, the termina- tion of my school days was quite a memorable event. I guess it is n anyone's life» Just what were my former classmates doing? Nyla Baughfman, the former Nyla Baughfman that is, had secured a stenographic position with the Schlict-Noble Manui acturing Co. upon gradu- ation, only to resign a year later to become the bride of the Junior executive My reminiscing was interrupted by a phone call from the Metropolitan Opera House advertisment chairman with a flash announcement concerning tae opera singer, Marliss Schroeder. The world-renowned Miss Schroeder was to dismiss her career to become a social worker. The outer office buzzer sounded, and my secretary announced Major ana Mrs. Melvin Moore. I'd only seen Raeburn Grassel three times since she had attained her MRS degree in 19Sh .. . , I remembered I was to make reservations at the DAKOTAN, that magnificent corner restaurant which was running the WALDORF stiff competition. Now, just what was the oroprietor's name? D.L. Maurice---could that be Delwood? Sure enough the experience gained at the Corner Cafe had produced results.' Delwood told me that Mr. and Mrs. Don Dechow had attended a Grocers' Convention Banquet at the DAKOTAN. Don attended business college following graduation, and now was a prosperous proprietor of a chain of grocery stores. The Korean was coincided with our graduation and, as a result, a couple of our WHS basketball veterans began playing on Uncle Sam's team. With Anchors Away as a theme song, Tom Glenn and Fay Witte departed from tneir mechanic jobs to become Lieutenant Commanders In Uncle Sam's Navy. Don Rauch received his BA degree from the California Institute of Technology, and is now vacationing in sunny South Dakota with old friends such as Lyle Pawlowski. Lyle is a successful farmer of Lane county, and is proprietor of the Rainbow Ballroom. The teen-swoon band leader, William Smith, will be featured at the annual Mayday dance. Bill was successful as a telegrapher, but his desire to contribute in the field of music proved overwhelming. Victor Trudeau, Wayne Smith and A1 Foos have returned from the profitable able career of farming. Wayne is the Kaiser-Frazer dealer and an influential financial backer of the Esterline hot rod races. Vic sponsors the Saddle Club, and his inventive genius publicized itself when he received a patent for a Stay-Sit 'Sat-dle' . The largest construction in the thriving metropolis'of Woonsocket is Foos' Friendly Fool-hall, located on the corner of 7th-Dumont. Presiding as WHS principal is a graduate of Northern State Teacher's College, Aberdeen, Avis Rumelhart, who was voted Teacher of the Year , and shared the national limelight with motion picture celebrities, politicians. and athletes. Speaking of sports----Ronald Moses Sport Clubs are becoming so numerous that history teacher, Frances Scott, Vermillion, has found it more effective to begin each class with a salute to Old Babe than to Old Glory . Frances says it puts the students in a more receptive mood. Babe spends his winters with the Harlem Globetrotters (tying shoestrings), summers with the Yankees (of which he is honorary manager) and his free time with the Los Angeles Rams. The former Judy Thill, R.N., and her husband, a handsome Air Corps aviator, are flying it high, wide, and handsome. Judy informed me that Jane Parsons, R.N., has accepted the position as chief laboratory technician at John Hopkins Hospital. G.A. Luthi, M.D., heads the list of doctors at the new UN clinic which is financed by Lila Olson, a graduate nurse, whose husband just happens to be a physician. Oh yes, about the new WHS building.' It faces south, and extends the entire block. The office is of light brick with a red Indian head on the front. Y ho is responsible for this outstanding feature? The Anderson Construction Co. Yes, I do mean Ava Anderson.' Ava's professional career commenced with a bookkeeping position, and now she is the sole stockholder.
