SIEIIEIIEMIBIER QQ, 30, IIQQIII IT IS first period Mon' Yday when I am feeling at my worst that I walk into my algebra class. I note the dreaded whispers and inguirie: such as, l'Is there going to be a test? llI.et's see your answer ' Yes, indeed, these Americans have very unusual customs. As the teacher steps into the room a general silence sudden- ly prevails. The teacher seems pleased with this and looks over the class to find out who hasnt done his homework. Everyone trusts to luck that he wont be called on. When, however, the teacher decides to correct the homework, a sigh of re- lief arises from the studious group, After corrections have been made, questions are asked about all mistakes. Then, I'm really confused! Gosh' Algebra isnt so easy as it looks. Even with the help of Miss McFee and Mr. Guyette, students find more than one difficulty in this important subject which is vital to our national defense program. Mr. X. is a very elusive person but welll get him yet. We hope! WE GET THE POINT Mr. George Guyette IS THAT CLEAR? Miss Elizabeth O'DonneII lust sitting behind the geometry class reminds me of one night back home, when I fell asleep over my home- work and dreamed that I was being chased by angles and circumferences, Ever since then, I've felt a great respect for this study. Of course, to the outsider, conf gruent triangles may not mean anyf thing, but the pupils initiated into these mysteries have to be up on their toes every minute of the period. I must ad- mit I often neglect my own studying as I become absorbed in the way Miss O'I7onnell explains theorems and prob- lems. Probably theres not another high- school coiirse so calculated to teach the student to think and actually to solve thing every one is interested in today. So I like to remember that when I walk into Room I8 and see the boards decof rated with figures that seem meaning- less to those who have never explored the t1elds of geometry. Was it Euclid or Pythafioras would that I could remember '.-:lie it '-'ICISI It really doesnt make much difference not-J '.-:ho evolved 'itrigu as long as have the subject and Mr. Guyette to teach it.
